"Fascinating"
Near death experiences are always more interesting/credible when written by a physician, because they can address the critics arguments about the impossibility of NDE's in a scientific manner. This is a great story. It is very well written and there is a lot of detail on the experience itself and how it affected the author and her family. The narrator does a great job too.
"Boring and Slow"
Nothing really happened in the first 3 hours. The narrator was also distracting. She made the main character seem flat and dull. Her voices for other characters were just irritating. I love sci-fi, but there wasn't any here. It was just boring with no real character development. The main character had no redeeming qualities.
"Entertaining Story"
This story is just plain fun and entertaining. Wil Wheaton does a great job narrating it. His timing is very good and so are the voices of the individual characters. I listened to his narration of "Fuzzy Nation" which took a little getting used to. He read it well, but just a little too fast. His narration of "Agent to the Stars" is great, much better timing and variation on the characters' voices.
"Annoying Narrator"
A better narrator. The story and dialogue also seems a little dated.
No. The narrator emphasized the dialogue all wrong and made the heroine sound like a whiny teenager rather than a strong woman.
NO! This may be a good book, but the narrator is so annoying I couldn't listen to it.
It revolved around a strong heroine, she can fight and take care of herself. If she were written better (she spends too much time fuming, whining and talking to herself) and the narrator were better, this could be a good book.
"Great story if you like the supernatural."
The story was very well written, and the characters were well developed. There was a lot of action. The world of the supernatural characters was well developed.
The character of Mercy Thompson was the best part of the book.
She does such a good job you get lost in the story and don't notice the narration. Voices for each character are specific and fit the personality of the character. The vampire was a little Bela Lugosi, but still worked (not too over the top).
The only drawback for me was that I am not interested in vampire, werewolf, gremlin etc.stories. The subject didn't interest me much, but the story; the personalities and interaction of the characters; and the narration were so good I still enjoyed the book.
