Captivating plot, without all of the gratuitous violence and shock-value sex scenes on the HBO series. Since I'm now in book #3 of the series, the writing style is getting a bit stale-- the author likes to recycle a bit--but the story is a real page-turner. Obviously (as other reviewers have pointed out) this isn't high literature, but highly entertaining and definitely worth a credit.
This was a really enjoyable "read". It was my first romance, and I was looking for something light, but when I heard them say "Harlequin" I was like, "Oh, no!!" But I've been converted :)
The story is really good, with plenty of twists. I love the attention to detail the author gives, since I'm an historical fiction fiend. I loved the narrator-- this one is far superior to that of the next book in the series-- and enjoyed her sometimes quirky pronunciation. I've since enjoyed the next book, Silent in the Sanctuary, and am anxiously awaiting the 3rd book that is to be released next month.
I'm sorry, but I thought this was one of the corniest books I've listened to in a long time. I liked the premise, though, so I kept listening, hoping it would get better. It didn't.
The plot was boring and predictable. The characters were flat and cliched with no (or erratic) development. The narrator, while somewhat pleasing to listen to in her primary voice, made the male characters sound ridiculous! I won't be reading the next book... I'm glad I only paid $4!
