I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!

Crestfallen, dejected, and spiralling into an alcohol-fuelled depression after killing a man in the line of duty, Inspector Kurt Wallander has made up his mind to quit the police force for good. When an old acquaintance, a solicitor, seeks Wallander's help to investigate the suspicious circumstances in which his father has died, Kurt doesn't want to know. But when the solicitor also turns up dead, shot three times, Wallander realises that he was wrong not to listen.

    Story

Not the best of the Wallander series, still magic. Too much angst about the past to start. Then, when the plot thickens, wonderful mystery and minds focused on the solution to a national disgrace, let alone a murder. The unravelling of a multi-national company and crime is thought provoking while foreign to most people's experience, including mine. It's so hard for someone in the 99% to comprehend the lives of the 1% I almost lost sight of the emptiness it must be to be mega-wealthy, the only reason for life to get more. This is a profound literary illustration of the greed, soulessnes, and narcissism that seems to rule the world, all wrapped around a murder investigation. Marvelous read.

Sean Barrett excellent as always with the delivery of the story.

Desperation has led Anne-Sophia Duncombe to a life of exile. Still, she is always just one mistake away from capture and a marriage she would rather die than endure. As a last resort to remain hidden from her former life, Sophia attempts a radical scheme: a life of humility and disguise. Rumor has it that Wilhelm Montegue, the Earl of Devon, is insane. A tormented war hero haunted by scandal, he is only tolerated because of his brilliant mind and swarthy good looks.

    Story

I am simply stunned by how much I enjoyed this book. It does not in anyway fit the parameters of my usual fare. There were no otherworldly beings, hot men in kilts or graphically detailed sex scenes, and yet I absolutely loved it. Who knew?

Sophia Duncombe is on the run from her abusive father after he has nearly beaten her to death over her failure to submit to one of his friend's attempts to impregnate her. After gaining employment as a maid for the mysterious, and often referred to as insane, Earl of Devon, Sophia finds that what many consider bizarre and objectionable, may just be the thing to set her free.

Wilhelm Montegue, Earl of Devon, cares little for the conjecture of polite society as to his sanity or sexuality. As a former assassin and master spy for the crown, Wilhelm is entitled to his side trips from reality on occassion. His extreme OCD, PTSD, and Savant syndrome indeed make Wilhelm seem a likely candidate for Bedlam. The one thing that may save him from falling completely into madness is the mysterious and unlikely maid who has captured his heart.

These two characters were just a joy to meet and get to know. Even through all their combined troubles, they had a dry wit that brought a smile to my face even during the most harrowing passages. I was captivated by their story from the first paragraph. For two people who life had shown nothing but tragedy, Wilhelm and Sophia still managed an air of innocence and hope. Wilhelm was so used to being a pariah, that Sophia didn't immediately spurn him gave him just the nudge he needed to climb out of his cups and grab the happiness he thought was forever out of reach. Sophia was a great heroine She was intelligent, tough and determined to take her fate into her own hands. She was also incredibly perceptive and open minded. Although she initially questioned Wilhelm's sexuality, she still held him in great esteem and valued him as a person. I truly liked both of these characters and their oddness. Moriah Densley has done a magnificent job of crafting a story that succeeds not on rampant sex or trite story lines, but on the merits of it's characters and their journey. Will I visit Moriah Densley's works again? Absolutely. Do I recommend this book? With a resounding yes! Well done, Ms. Densley, well done.

Heather Wilds is one of favourite narrators and she did a fantastic job with this story.

Deep in the heart of New Orleans, Acadian Wolves’ Alpha, Logan Reynaud, rescues a beautiful woman in the dead of night. Intrigued by the mysterious human, the commanding Alpha is determined to elicit all of her secrets, including her deepest fantasies. After tragedy strikes, Logan discovers dangerous adversaries are planning an attack in his city. Driven by responsibility and honor, Logan must protect both his pack and the woman who’s captivated his attention.

Dr. Wynter Ryan, a leading virologist, is fascinated with her charismatic protector. As the chemistry ignites between her and the dominant Alpha, she relinquishes her ties to the past, embracing ecstasy and submission within his arms and intrepidly acquiescing to her own adventurous instincts. Succumbing to desire, she learns to trust her Alpha, discovering what it means to be wolf.

Passion and mystery on the bayou stirs Logan’s wolf, demanding he claim his mate. Yet Wynter’s a distraction he can’t afford when his priority is to lead his new pack. Will Logan surrender to the uncontrollable need to claim Wynter as his mate? And will he be able to keep her alive, finding the killer who threatens the Acadian Wolves?

Do you believe that you can see the future? Logan the Alpha of the Acadian Wolf Pack sees the future and he has been having a recurring vision of an angelic face with sad hazel eyes that beg him for help. Immobilized and unable to do anything he has watched her die over and over again.

The dreams hadn’t prepared him for the intense arousal and possessiveness that appeared to be rearing its ugly head.

Wynter had been raised by the New York Alpha, her Godfather. Even though she is human, he has protected her and kept her away from wolves. Now her life is changed forever, she no longer human, but wolf.

“Your destiny is with the Alpha. You must not fight this, pet. Some things are meant to be.”

Logan hadn’t planned on losing control, but in that moment, Wynter was his life. His present and future. No longer would he live his life alone. He’d blame it on his wolf, but in truth it was the heart of the man who wanted to claim this woman as his.

Wynter has been changed, but does not remember how! Her path is now beside Logan. That must find out what happened to her and who is trying to get her back.

“I know you’re worried. But you have to trust me.” He raised his head and took her hands into his. “I’m not going to use you as a lure. I love you too goddam much. You’re not just my mate, you’re everything to me.”

Logan had not expected to be betrayed by someone he trusted. He just had to get Wynter back and keep her safe.

A sob escaped his lips as he realized it was too late. Logan would never recover from her death, nor would he. Helplessly, he continued to try to stop the bleeding as her heartbeat slowed.

The end leaves you wanting more and leaves you wanting more! This book is full of surprises and unexpected actions by different characters in the book. It is intriguing!

FORGOTTEN SINS is a unique blend of romantic suspense, military thriller, and paranormal—to be honest, I’ve never listened to anything quite like it. I was reluctant to add this title to my to-be-read pile at first because I tend to stay away from straight-up contemporary, and the amnesia story line was a bit of a turn-off. However, Rebecca Zanetti’s beautiful writing style, and Karen White’s enchanting performance quickly sold me on the merits of this genre blending audiobook, and the smexy SIN BROTHERS definitely helped to further seal the deal. This high octave listen will have you staying up well past your bedtime, and the sex scenes will also ensure that your partner won’t be getting much sleep either.

The plot line of this novel is masterfully crafted; I enjoyed watching the various threads unfold, and I loved how just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, the author surprises you. I went from thinking that Shane’s reappearance was to blame—to suspecting Josie’s clients, coworkers, and kinda boyfriend—to government conspiracies, and back again. Zanetti does a superb job of keeping readers guessing up until the very end, and the way that it all comes together is exquisite. I found myself enjoying the amnesia angle way more than expected because it helped to add an extra level of mystery to the story, and then there’s the characters… wow! I’ve only just met the SIN BROTHERS, and already I find myself hard-pressed to pick a favourite.

Shane Dean is the epitome of alpha male; he’s inhumanly strong and fiercely loyal, but there’s also an underlying sweetness to him that’ll make your panties melt. I loved how in spite of his memory loss, his body and soul still recognized Josie as his. Their love for one another is rooted at such a basic level that it seemed almost instinctual at times which made the love scenes doubly explosive. It takes a strong heroine to hold her own against one of the SIN BROTHERS, and Josie was certainly up to the task. Her character is obviously struggling with abandonment issues, and I liked how she consistently disproved the brothers’ opinions of her “soft” nature by kicking butt.

This was my first experience with Karen White as a narrator, and I have to say that I was impressed. It took a couple of chapters for her to get the pacing down pat, but once she found her rhythm there was no stopping her! White’s tone mirrored the author’s writing to perfection; she successfully conveyed all of the characters’ emotions in any given scene, and also managed to capture the sexiness of Dean’s Southern twang. Needless to say, I enjoyed the narrator’s delivery, and will definitely be listening to SWEET REVENGE instead of reading it. What an outstanding performance!

FORGOTTEN SINS is one smexy audiobook! Great story, suspenseful plot, and the man-candy—oh, la la!

Alexander Fitzpatrick is one of the most wanted men in the Western world. A Howard Marks character, but far more dangerous, his wealth, accrued through drug-trafficking, runs into millions. For the past 10 years there has been no sighting of him. Has he gone to ground using an alias, or is he dead?

When an ex-police officer from the murder squad is found shot in a dank squat, Anna Travis is pulled onto the case. As the body count rises and the investigation becomes ever more complex, suspicion falls on Fitzpatrick.

Deadly Intent is the fourth Anna Travis book by Lynda La Plante, and well worth the read. Anna has worked two investigations since her breakup with now Chief Superintendent James Langton, and fortunately did not see him on either case.

Now, a former Murder Squad detective has been murdered at a drug den, and the Squad sets up for yet another investigation headed this time by the formidable DCI Carol Cunningham.

Anna was onto Alexander Fitzpatrick from the beginning, but no one would believe her. As the body count rose, and Langton became more involved in the case, Anna's stress level rose accordingly. To add to her woes, she was accused of going off on her own without involving or updating the rest of the team.

La Plante has written an intense follow-up to her other successful Anna Travis mysteries. Her books are well-researched providing an uncanny look into the heart, mind, and soul of the antagonist, providing the reader with a chilling sense of what motivates him.

This book is a gem. Well plotted and fast-paced throughout, the ending is beyond surprising. I never saw it coming.

But if you want an engaging, provacative police procedural with plenty of action to keep you entertained for hours, than this is the book for you.

    Story

Certainly a gripping, can't-put-it-down, finish-it-in-the-wee-hours book, but it's also almost a horror story. One more gruesome killing of a terrified woman, one more child with evil seething around him, and one more bout of Harry's horrific lapses into booze, and I'd have to put this one down as horror rather than mystery or crime. But the character development, the plotting, the pacing and the building of tension are all absolutely professional and highly impressive.

On the down side, there are a few unnecessary clichés: the relatively incompetent and sexist underling male cop who looks askance at the new and more competent female cop. Has that one not been done enough yet? (Mind you, maybe it was still somewhat fresh back when the novel was originally penned!) And Harry's battle with booze. I am so tired of cops and detectives with a drinking problem. The only thing different about Harry's drinking is that it's horrible to read about - that one scene where he's already drunk and then goes home, opens a bottle of hard stuff and starts just draining it practically made me ill.

But these are quibbles, really. I'll be reading more about Harry soon, I'm sure, since I've pretty much exhausted P. D. James, John le Carré and Stieg Larsson.

On the unbelievability index, it rates about a 7 out of 10, especially toward the end, wehere things get a tad out of control, but that's about par for the course in cop/thriller/whodunnits, so no surprises there.

If you like a mystery that keeps you guessing, a love story that sizzles, a leading lady who is as smart as she is sexy, and a hero who defines the meaning of the word - then this is the novel for you. Claire and Cassidy leads a cast of well-crafted characters, that will keep you eager to turn the page and find out what comes next. Unfortunately for us readers,(as with all Sandra Brown's books) the endings come way to quickly, and you have to shift your imagination into overdrive to keep the story going in your mind past the final chapter. "FRENCH SILK" is a fantastic read. Set against the colorful and captivating backdrop of New Orleans, Ms. Brown weaves a tale of mystery, suspense and an unforgettable story of romance and family loyalty. Claire will stop at nothing to protect her fragile mother from an unforgiving world, her best friend from the perils of loving a married man, and the company she founded from the ravings of a religious fanatic. Cassidy is her perfect match. He is looking to solve the case of the decade, and trap a cold-blooded killer - even it it means investigating the woman he could'nt help loving. Former FBI Agent Mac McCoy gave up a lot to marry Keiley Hardin. Knowing that she wasn't ready to accept the sexual lifestyle that he reveled in, he willingly gave it up in order to have Keiley. All he's doing is waiting for the day that she embraces the need that he can so plainly see in her. Mac is content to be patient with Keiley, until her curiosity starts getting the better of her.

Keiley Hardin is just starting to realize that Mac has been holding a part of himself back from her. Though she desperately wants all of her husband, she is not sure if she can do what he so obviously needs from her. After living for years in the shadow of her parents mistakes, Keiley abhors gossip and does everything she can not to draw attention to herself.

Jethro Riggs has been waiting for three years for Mac's call to tell him that Keiley is ready. When it finally comes, Jethro wonders how he will hide the feels he has for Keiley from Mac. Although Jethro and Mac have shared many women, Jethro knows this is different because of how much Mac loves Keiley.

This was an unusual book for me. In previous m/f/m books that I've read (specifically Lora Leigh's), the men only share their women until they are married. As a married woman myself, I had a hard time understanding how Mac could want to share and how Keiley could be in love with two men at the same time. On the other hand, Keiley's struggle with exactly that came across loud and clear. When you throw in a little suspense from one of Mac's old cases and a harpy witch that wants to bring Keiley down, you have a good read. All in all, it was a good book though unusual.

This continues the story of a family of shifters. The Falke siblings are a set of quadruplets Axel and Gunnar (who where in the first book Falke's Peak), Kelan and Reidar and then a set of triplets Sindre, Torsten, and sister Heidi.

This book is Kelan and Reider's story. Kelan is struggling with wanting to make some changes to the business dynamics the Falke's have which causes some strife between him and the Alpha brother Axel.

Kelan and Reidar are out drinking one night and see Beth Coldwell who is in town to track and tag big cats in the wild (something she doesnt tell them of course) She just mentions that she is graduate student in town doing some research studies. Both Kelan and Reidar are attracted to Beth and Reidar has the feeling she is there mate but Kelan isnt ready to start thinking about settling down with a mate like his older brothers have.

After an argument with Axel, Kelan decides to change into puma form and run to blow off some steam.. Well this gets him shot in the butt with a trank gun by Beth and he wakes up in a cage.. Some of the best comedic moments in this series come from the "thinking" of the Faulke that is in cat form. Kelan does manage to escape but not before Beth managed to get a blood sample which the family cant let be revealed.

There was some suspense over this especially from her boss who seemed to have more of a motive for wanting to find shifters.

With Beth's profession the romance was a little more strained and Kelan didnt really want to believe that she was there mate.

Overall a good 2nd book in the series. I am really curious about how the sisters romance is going to play out. I am sure the next book with be Sindre and Torsten but its going to be interesting to see who Heidi's mate or mates are..

Overall, I enjoyed listening to the audio of this book but often found myself impatient with it too. There were a few too many coincidences, a few too many flashbacks, and a few too many details that didn't quite ring true. For instance, when we flashback to Jack's prison experiences and then to the circumstances of his first rape conviction, it made sense to the story. But by the time we flash back to his college days, then to his pre-teen days, and finally to the day he was born, I had had enough flashbacks. Similarly, I didn't believe some of the shenanigans in the courtroom would have been allowed or the attorneys would have sat quietly through some of the arguments/testimony. I also thought the author relied on coincidences too often--or were we supposed to think it was witchcraft that brought Jack to the exact spot where Gillian and her friends were celebrating that night? I did enjoy the book but I think it could have been more effective if it had been tightened up a bit. But the reader did a good job with the narration--I especially enjoyed the voices she did for the teenage girls.
