Why we think it’s a great listen: If you’ve ever loved a dog - or even patted a dog - this book, told from the perspective of man’s best friend, will tug at your heartstrings...and won’t let go until long after Welch performs the last word. Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively and by listening very closely to the words of his master.

If you could sum up The Art of Racing in the Rain in three words, what would they be?

    love this story

Who was your favorite character and why?

Enzo of course. I love his philosophies of life. He was wise but childlike at the same time.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When Denny took Enzo in the car for laps on the racetrack.

    Any additional comments?

Enzo the dog really comes alive for you in this story. At the end, you feel like you lost a friend, but you are so happy for him.

    Story

You know those books that after you read them, they stay with you for days, weeks, forever? This is not one of them. I listened to the The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton and loved it so much that I bought two more Kate Morton audiobooks. The story in The Forgotten Garden was good, but you know where it was going early on. I like surprises and I didn't get any here. Once again, this about a woman trying to unravel a mystery involving her family. I was so enjoying this book because I thought there would be this great twist at the end and everything I thought happened, was not what happened (like The Secret Keeper), that there would be this great pay off. Instead, the story resolved uneventfully, and it was just over.

Maybe if I hadn't had such high expectations for the ending, I might have enjoyed my experience more. As I said the story was good, and I love stories that are told out of sequence so that you are always wondering how you get from Point A to Point B which is how this story is done. I just don't think this is a story that I will remember a year from now - easily forgotten.

England, 1959: Laurel Nicolson is 16 years old, dreaming alone in her childhood tree house during a family celebration at their home, Green Acres Farm. She spies a stranger coming up the long road to the farm and then observes her mother, Dorothy, speaking to him. And then she witnesses a crime.

Maria says: "Kate Morton (and Caroline Lee) does it again!"
"Keep listening to the end - what a payoff!"

    Story
What made the experience of listening to The Secret Keeper the most enjoyable?

I loved the narration. I also loved how the story wrapped up - I was brought to tears.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved Vivian. She was kind and strong.

Which character – as performed by Caroline Lee – was your favorite?

    Laurel

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Once I was about 3/4 of the way through, I didn't want to stop listening.

    Any additional comments?

For most of the book, I thought it was just ok - a little too long, too many details that I thought at the time didn't mean anything. But once the story starting wrapping up, I realized it was a GREAT story, and I relished all those details. A new favorite author!

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

    Crazy KNOWS crazy

What about Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne ’s performance did you like?

I loved the narration. I felt like they were telling their story instead of reading the story.

    Any additional comments?

I loved the twists and turns. There was a portion that I found a bit boring and that part could have been shortened. And I didn't like the ending. Not that the ending was bad at all, it was just that I wanted something different to happen. I like that you are taken for a ride on which character you like better - Amy . . . Nick . . . Amy . . . Nick . . . Nick . . . oh brother, they are both nuts! Loved it!
