Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This book was okay. The reader did a great job. I just wasn't impressed with the book.

Has Last to Die turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No.

Have you listened to any of Tanya Eby’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    This was my first.

Could you see Last to Die being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

If it was a movie, I wouldn't watch it. There were too many stretches to make the plot work. There were too many coincidences. Also, this was so formulaic that there were almost no surprises. The author gave so many obvious clues that it took away any mystery. This book was very dumbed down from some of her past work.

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

This book was a nice way to pass the time. The story line was pretty interesting. The author did a very good job on character development. However, the story line is pretty juvenile. There are several plot holes that could have been better. The author also tends to overuse certain words and phrases so that they become annoying (for example - "collarbone").

Would you be willing to try another book from Veronica Roth? Why or why not?

This was not a bad book at all, but did not leave me wanting to read another. Perhaps this was just written for a younger audience.

Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead, serving in the household of the enigmatic Commander and his bitter wife. She may go out once a day to markets whose signs are now pictures because women are not allowed to read. She must pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, for in a time of declining birthrates her value lies in her fertility, and failure means exile to the dangerously polluted Colonies. Offred can remember a time when she lived with her husband and daughter and had a job, before she lost even her own name....

If you could sum up The Handmaid's Tale in three words, what would they be?

This is a gripping story that pulls you in and keeps you focused from start to finish. The author's way of maintaining the first person perspective by way of their thought process as they recount their experiences makes you feel like you are in the story. It's very immersive! Claire Danes does a fabulous job of reading this book. She makes the character really come to life.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Handmaid's Tale?

The ending was a complete surprise to me. I wanted more!

What about Claire Danes’s performance did you like?

She was a perfect fit for this character. Her tones and pace were could not have been better. I could actually picture her in this role.
