The Executive Board of an exclusive men's club meets to talk about 9/11 and finalize a retaliation plan, known by a code name: Wild Fire. That weekend, a member of the Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force is found dead. It's up to Detective John Corey and his wife, FBI Agent Kate Mayfield, to unravel a terrifying plot that starts with the Custer Hill Club and ends with American cities locked in the crosshairs of a nuclear device.

I found the New York wit to be extremely funny in places. So much so, that twice I had laughed out loud. The story has one or 2 slow spots, but overall is fast paced. I highly recommend this.

Hailed by Salman Rushdie as a "brilliantly innovative thriller-writer", Philip Kerr is the creator of taut, gripping, noir-tinged mysteries set in Nazi-era Berlin that are nothing short of spellbinding. The first book of the Berlin Noir trilogy, March Violets introduces listeners to Bernie Gunther, an ex-policeman who thought he'd seen everything on the streets of 1930s Berlin - until he turned freelance and each case he tackled sucked him further into the grisly excesses of Nazi subculture.

    "Disappointing"
    Overall

I found myself wandering off while trying to follow the story. The ending was really disappointing.. somewhat like a stereo typical foreign film that does not know how to end.

The Bottom of the Sky is an aching rags to riches family saga that surges from rural squalor into the opulent power chambers of Wall Street and Silicon Valley. The story contrasts the 30-year struggles of an abused sister and brother who seek to reclaim themselves from their abhorrent past. One is abandoned to a life of sexual desecration and addiction. The other escapes with his demons to wield fragile, uncanny genius and unrelenting ambition to amass staggering wealth.

    "Depressing and Disappointing Narration"
    Overall

I am a huge Scott Brick fan, but this is one book where I found his narration to be annoying and at times hard to follow. Scott Brick has never been great in voice differentiation, and this book is definitely no exception. I forced myself to get all the way to the end and was relieved when it was over. This is one to stay away from.

Mikael Blomkvist, crusading journalist and publisher of the magazine Millennium, has decided to publish a story exposing an extensive sex trafficking operation between Eastern Europe and Sweden, implicating well-known and highly placed members of Swedish society, business, and government. On the eve of publication, the two reporters responsible for the story are brutally murdered.

    David says: "irritatingly engrossing"
    "Great Characters - Riveting Story"
    Overall

Although some reviewers found the first 6 hours to be slow, I enjoyed this portion as I was totally enamored with the main characters after having read "Girl with the Dragon tattoo". This story is absolutely riveting. I am totally into the heroine and could easily picture her in a movie for any of the books in this series.

Our hero is Jack McEvoy, a Rocky Mountain News crime-beat reporter. As the story opens, Jack's twin brother, a Denver homicide detective, has just killed himself. Or so it seems. But when Jack begins to investigate the phenomenon of police suicides, a disturbing pattern emerges, and soon suspects that a serial murderer is at work.

Tom says: "Is Connelly the Best Crime Writer Or What?"
    "Good story with annoying narration"
    Overall

I found myself very much immersed in the story line which was fast paced with breadth. However, I found the Narrator to sound robot like and came close to quitting early. However, I soon became use to his annoying staccato like narration and continued to finish the story.

I actually would recommend the book... but with some hesitancy because of the narration.

With the precision of a surgeon, a serial killer preys on the most vulnerable souls of the world's city streets. The first victim: a sidewalk sleeper, found dead in New York City. No bruises, no signs of struggle. Just a laser-perfect, fist-sized hole where his heart had once been.

Having read several of the books in this series, I was not disappointed. However, I still feel the author spends a little too much time on her romantic happenings with her hubby. Otherwise, a fun read.

After almost 60 years as an actor, William Shatner has become one of the most beloved entertainers in the world. It seems that Shatner is everywhere, and he was recently elected to the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame. In this touching and funny autobiography, he reveals the man behind his career, and explains how he's become the worldwide star and experienced actor he is today.

    William says: "Very enjoyable"
    "Too much Ego and Mumbling"
    Overall

I am a big fan of Shatner. But even I could not get through this book. Shatner mumbles so much, I found myself continually turning up the volume. At first I laughed at his story telling. However, after a while his large ego made him sound boring. This is one to skip.

I am a big Vince Flynn fan. However, the narrator's voice made me feel as though I was listening to a 'lifeless' story with my hero and all around him sounding as tired old men. Bummer!

When Lyra and her daemon Pantalaimon decide to spy on a presentation her uncle, the commanding Lord Asriel, is making to the elders of Jordan College they have no idea that they will become witnesses to an attempted murder, and even less that they are taking the first steps in a journey that will lead them into danger and adventure unlike anything Lyra's unfettered imagination has conjured up.

I almost put this down several times in the first half of the story. Partly, as having difficulty understanding the thick English accents. The second half of the story was much more riveting and I found myself thinking about reading on to the next in this trilogy.

The story starts off promising, but soon you realize this is no more than the equivalent of an action movie that has lots of action and not much depth as a story. Very disappointed.
