In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

    "first book was better"
    Overall

The first book wasnt that great, although it was ok and a great time killer... The story lines and the incredibly femenist main character would have fit into a early 20th century novel a bit better. And the weak male characters couldn't seem to get there testicals to drop. So personally i only liked it in the sense that it is like an ongoing spoap opera and makes you want to know what happened. Which was too bad because not much really happens in the end.

Debt of Honor ends as Jack Ryan is confirmed vice president minutes before a mammoth act of terrorism kills the President, most of his cabinet, all but a few members of Congress, the entire Supreme Court and all of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Suddenly Ryan is President, which is where Executive Orders begins.

Thomas says: "Don't some of us wish Jack ryan was real?"

I like Tom Clancy even though I know it will be a bit tedious at times, but a good narrator certainly would have helped.
I have downloaded over a hundred books and this is the first time I really wanna ask audible to give me a refund or a free credit or something!
The narrator is just awful and I dont think I will be able to finish listening. He mispronounces words, does not differentiate the characters (as far as I can tell), and he reads like a robot. An annoying robot. Like imagine your GPS with the male voice reading a book for you. Ugh.
The plot gets a little too deep. Seems like he is trying to be Vince Flynn, who brings off his stories & characters way more convincingly.
Red October was his best ever. Why not write like that any more?
    Disappointed.

"Good, but not a good abridgement."
    Overall

Loved the great energy in the audio sample, and so I broke my rule of USUALLY not buying abridgements, so its partly my fault that I didnt thoroughly enjoy it, because I think a lot has been lost in the cuts. This is important I think, because there is quite a bit of science which gets covered. Most of the info is old in the sense that if you are into health and fitness, you will have heard it all before, but that being said, its still mostly good info and the author brings it back to life with her enthusiasm. So I suggest you buy the book in its earthly form, and skip this one on audible. Still enjoyed the authors passion though it cost me a credit.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Got 40 hours to kill? You’ll find the time when you start listening to Lee’s take on Follett’s epic – and widely celebrated – novel of 12th-century England. The Pillars of the Earth tells the story of Philip, prior of Kingsbridge, a devout and resourceful monk driven to build the greatest Gothic cathedral the world has known...of Tom, the mason who becomes his architect - a man divided in his soul...and of the beautiful, elusive Lady Aliena, haunted by a secret shame....

    CynNC says: "Captivating"
"Soap opera addictive, lots of violence"
    Overall

This book is quite engaging, and i didnt want to stop listening....until about the third violent rape scene. I understand that it may have been a reflection of the times, & wasnt really offended, yet it seemed the author has a fascination with it. SO it became gratuitous in my opinion. It also took on the feel of a never ending soap opera, which made some of the more interesting characters annoyingly predictable by the end. Its ok, especially if you just want to listen for hours. But in my opinion its a bit of a waste of some really good story telling.
