This was not my favorite book in the series. It introduced some new plot elements but fell short of establishing interest in them for me. I'll read the next book, more out of interest in the main two characters than the plot---I wish more attention was given to the other characters in the story

The characters are what I really love about these books. Lois does such a great job with character development. I've become attached to not one or two, but many different characters in the series. This book certainly doesn't disappoint in that respect. And Grover is one of the best narrators

There are some hilarious moments in this book, I'm talking laughing-to-tears funny. Lots of interesting technology, explained in great detail---a bit much at times, but mostly entertaining. Not a lot of action. Not that that diminishes this book; it's just not a posleen war story. There are plenty of things going on in this book though (eg, astronomical science experiments), and at fast pace. I expect there will be more action in the next book, which I look forward to.

Not as good as the lost regiment books by Forstchen but still a good read. My understanding is that most of the book is factual, deviating near the end from actual events. I suspect the next book will deviate even more as the changes from the first book ripple. This book has definitely left me wanting to re-study these events and those leading up. And, I'm looking forward to the next book, Days of Infamy‎.

3.5 stars. Good military sci-fi. Story continues to be interesting, with new plot twists added. Its still lite on detail and character development. Scenes and technologies are not described in the kind of detail you'd get from John Ringo, for example---still very enjoyable, but missing clarity. There are an ever-growing number of characters in this story and its becoming more and more difficult to remember who's who. I'll definitely continue to read this series for the story alone, with the hope that other characters besides the lead come to life.

Probably my least favorite in the series as it was almost entirely political discussion. I think the end result of all the political maneuvering has added some interesting possibilities for the rest of the story. I just didn't enjoy the journey with this one as much as the previous books.

A very good book and a damn good series. I'll read these books again and again. I already miss the characters, having grown fond of so many of them through the authors amazing ability to bring them to life. I look forward to the next phase of the series that picks up years afterwards with "Down to the Sea".

I read this and Barrayar after having read the rest of the series. What fun! I really enjoyed finding Miles' mannerisms evident in his mom and dad. I'm not sure I would have caught the inheritance without having Miles' behavior ingrained from all the subsequent books.

I had read (and listened to) the rest of the Vorkosigan series (starting with Warrior's Apprentice) twice when I finally got around to this book. I'm actually glad I read it in this order. I think this book would have been enjoyable if read in the proper sequence. But I thoroughly enjoyed learning where and how my favorite characters came to be. I love this series and this book certainly makes a great addition (or start)---I need to work back to Shards of Honor next.
