In the face of a crisis that sweeps an entire high-tech planet back to the age before electricity, Deni Branning's career ambitions have vanished. She's not about to let her dream of marriage go as well. But keeping it alive will require extraordinary measures. Yesterday's world is gone. All Deni and her family have left is each other and their neighbors. Their little community will either stand or fall together. But they're only beginning to realize that, and trust doesn't come easily.

    "Hideous Narration"
    Overall

All I can say is GROSS! The only thing Dick Hill inspired in me with his gulp swallow narration was nausea. Not only were his throat noises absolutely disgusting, but his simpering whining impersonation of female characters only succeeded in making all the women sound like clinging, whining shrews. I can't even rate the story as I would have needed a lobotamy to finish the book.

I enjoyed the story a great deal. However, my enjoyment was lessened by the sappy/whiney voice of Dick Hill, the narrator. I appreciated his attempts to inflect emotion into the characters but he only succeeded in making the women sound whiney and naggy. His voice grated on my nerves and I could hear him swallowing and making other throat noises repeatedly. Good story, irritating narrator.
