All along the Mediterranean coast, the Roman Empire's richest citizens are relaxing in their luxurious villas, enjoying the last days of summer. But the carefree lifestyle and gorgeous weather belie an impending cataclysm, and only one man is worried. The young engineer Marcus Attilius Primus has just taken charge of the Aqua Augusta, the enormous aqueduct that brings fresh water to a quarter of a million people in nine towns around the Bay of Naples. His predecessor has disappeared.

"A pleasing blend of story and geological science"
    Overall

I found this story to be one of those that you go out of your way to listen to. I found it's salting of scientific information to be a pleasant compliment to a good storyline. The author tosses in little historically accurate facts and details of Roman life that further embellish the story. Even knowing about the real history of Pompeii's eruption as it is understood today and also of real historical individuals like Pliny the elder, the story doesn't dissapoint.

Not quite as entertaining as the rest of the hardluck hank series however the reader makes up for any shortcomings in the story. He really reads the hardluck Hank character in a great way.

If you haven't already tried the grimoire chronicles audiobooks, start at the first one and end here! (for now hopefully) The author's entertaining writing combined with reader's outstanding performance makes this entire series a must listen. One of Larry's other series, the one with Monster Hunter International is also very credit worthy.

One hundred years from now, Russia and the United States are at odds again. This time the war has gone hot. Heavily armored soldiers battle genetically engineered troops hundreds of meters below the icy, mineral-rich mountains of Kazakhstan. War is Oscar Wendell’s ticket to greatness. A reporter for the Stars and Stripes, he has the only one-way ticket to the front lines. The front smells of blood and fire and death—it smells like a Pulitzer.

Story was harsh, but compelling. Reader needs to learn that corpsman is pronounced "koorman". This book was "credit worthy" if you want a slightly future gritty war story.

Good book if you're a fan of space opera/ military scifi. Backstory stage has given way to some good action! One criticism - GET RID OF THAT DAMN ANNOYING CHAPTER CHIME! Reader did a good job with only a couple of mispronunciations. Otherwise, I will be on the lookout for another book in this series and would recommend this one as "credit worthy".

Surviving sixty thousand years takes cunning and more than a little luck. But in the twenty-first century, Adam confronts new dangers-someone has found out what he is, a demon is after him, and he has run out of places to hide. Worst of all, he has had entirely too much to drink. An artful blending of a first-person confessional, sci-fi, adventure, fantasy, and humor, Immortal introduces a world with vampires, demons and other “magical” creatures, yet a world without actual magic.

What made the experience of listening to Immortal the most enjoyable?

It was a good story with a very good reader. The kind of story you just have to come back to and can't put down. The reader did an exceptionally good job with minor voice changes and inflection changes to identify the different characters as he portrayed them.

What did you like best about this story?

The story was sort of quirky. It blended a little bit of history.... a little bit of noir... a little bit of gangster... a little bit of fantasy - it just was truly entertaining!

Which character – as performed by Jeff Steitzer – was your favorite?

The characters of the pixies were portrayed most enjoyably in my opinion. The author did a fun job of writing them but the the reader provided a great performance of them with his voice inflection and voice change. Although they were only small perifferral characters in my opinion they added pleasantly to the story.

In this riveting personal account, an authentic American hero relives the perils and triumphs of eight harrowing patrols aboard one of America's most successful World War II submarines. Courageous deeds and terror-filled moments - as well as the endless hard work of maintaining and operating a combat sub - are vividly recalled in Calvert's candid portrait.

"A fascinating view of WW2 Sub Warfare"
    Overall

Any fan of Tom Clancy's fictional sub tales will like this historical audio book of our submarine forces in WW2. The combination of technical information, wartime action, and insights into the human factor of life on a WW2 Sub made this book an enjoyable choice. The 10 hour unabridged size was also nice if you like unabridged formats - it did not drag or feel too long, but rather was hard to "put down". I would highly recommend this audiobook!
