As a teenager on the streets of San Francisco, Alison is discovered by a photographer and swept into the world of fashion-modeling in Paris and Rome. When her career crashes and a love affair ends disastrously, she moves to New York City to build a new life. There she meets Veronica: an older wisecracking eccentric with her own ideas about style, a proofreader who comes to work with a personal "office kit" and a plaque that reads "Still Anal After All These Years".

    "a disappointment"

This was the last fiction audible download for me. The novel seems to ramble and hang on the insignificant. I would find myself interrupting the story with no regret. Can't recommend it.

For two thousand years, cadavers have been involved in science's boldest strides and weirdest undertakings. They've tested France's first guillotines, ridden the NASA Space Shuttle, been crucified in a Parisian laboratory to test the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin, and helped solve the mystery of TWA Flight 800. For every new surgical procedure, from heart transplants to gender reassignment surgery, cadavers have been there alongside surgeons, making history in their quiet way.

Matthew says: "Darn funny if you're open to the idea."

The author has done well with a topic that could well be dead weight. However, I found myself being cautious not to eat during the reading.

  • A Short History of Nearly Everything

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 48 mins)

Bill Bryson has been an enormously popular author both for his travel books and for his books on the English language. Now, this beloved comic genius turns his attention to science. Although he doesn't know anything about the subject (at first), he is eager to learn, and takes information that he gets from the world's leading experts and explains it to us in a way that makes it exciting and relevant.

Corby says: "Very informative, fun to listen to"
    "Powerful Summation"
    Overall

Bryson's work is definitely worth a listen and a re-listen. It is an immense compilation of facts about the growth of science, the individuals who pushed it forward, and the history of the times within which they lived. Very colorful and and lively, I came away feeling more conifident about the future of the human race, when such flowers bloom within.
