As Richard fought to focus his mind on his need to remain conscious, the breathless voices sounded to him as if they were coming from some great, dim distance. He wasn't sure who they were. He knew that he knew them, but right then it just didn't seem to matter. He struggled to put voice to his burning concern, but he couldn't form the words, couldn't get out any more than a gasping moan.

I was not very impressed with the beginning, but towards the end of part III the story started to come together. Can't wait to start the next section.

"My name is Kvothe. I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep...."

    "Too long"
    Overall

The book was good, but it was too long. It should have been split into two books. I don't mind listening to long book if it's a little long. However, when the chapters start to get into the hundreds, I start to lose my taste in the book.

On the day that she awoke remembering nothing but her name, Kahlan Amnell became the most dangerous woman alive. For everyone else, that was the day when the world began to end.

The best review is your own. In my opinion, this part of the Chainfire series really had me on edge to find out what would happen next. I like this part of the series and hope that the last book goes out with a bang.

Now it has become terrifyingly clear that the Chimes have the potential to bring down all that Richard and Kahlan have worked to protect, and even the power of the Sword of Truth may not be enough to stem the tide of their unleashed magical force. But if the Chimes cannot be stopped, first they will ravage Richard and Kahlan, then all of D'Hara, and then the entire world.

To me, this book wasn't as good as the first four. It seemed to go off on a tangent about other things. I can understand to a point why you would need to know the background information, but it seemed to drag on at times.

The veil to the underworld has been torn, and Rahl, from beyond the veil, begins to summon a sinister power more dreadful than any he has wielded before. Horrifying creatures escape through the torn veil, wreaking havoc on the unsuspecting world above.

This is my absolute favorite book out of the series so far. I love the companionship between Addie and Zed. There is one part that I read over and over again.

The dangerous, fanatical Imperial Order, under the leadership of the power-mad Emperor Jagang and his multitude of demonic underlings, unleashes a deadly plague. To find a cure, Richard Cypher and his beloved Kahlan Amnell must seek out the legendary Temple of the Winds, a fortress of evil sealed away for three thousand years. But the path of the Seeker of Truth is never an easy one - even if he can reach the Temple at all, there is no guarantee he'll ever return.

Danielle says: "Good book, poor narration"
    "Overall good book"
    Overall

This book wasn't as bad as some of the other reviews mentioned. I understand everyone has different opinions and it's better just to listen for yourself to see if you like it. I rated this 4 stars because it was a good book. It was hard to get into because the narrator pronounced the mother confessor's name differently from the first three books. Her name is spelled Kahlan in the book which can be pronounced as 'Colin'. That is the way this narrator pronounced her name. In the first three books, the narrators pronounced Kahlan as 'Kaylen'. It doesn't matter much how it is pronounced to me. I will still know who they are talking about. However, there should be consistency throughout the series on how all names and places should be pronounced.

Rock is something of a nerd - or so his best friend, Kelli, has always claimed, simply because he's a brainy guy. He's an up-and-coming businessman, determined to go far fast - and he's the total opposite of fun-loving Kelli. To his regret, Kelli has always seen him as a best friend, never as a potential lover.

I can listen to this over and over and never get tired of it. The narrator makes the scenes so real in my mind. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching a movie. I wouldn't mind having a friend like Roddick. :)
