  • The 9th Judgment: The Women's Murder Club

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 48 mins)
    • By James Patterson, Maxine Paetro
    • Narrated By Carolyn McCormick
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

During an intimate dinner party, a cat burglar breaks into the home of A-list actor Marcus Dowling. When his wife walks in on the thief, the situation quickly teeters out of control, leaving an empty safe and a lifeless body.

Suzn F says: "Really Good Storyline"
    "Not so hot"

Not nearly as good as some of the earlier Women's Murder Cub mysteries. My husband and I listen when traveling, and this one didn't hold our interest nearly as much as others. But we're hoping the next ones comes back strong!

  • After the Night

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 12 mins)
    • By Linda Howard
    • Narrated By Natalie Ross
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

"Of all of my novels, After the Night remains one of my personal favorites – and Faith Devlin and Gray Rouillard are two of my favorite characters. Faith is strong, proud, and fearless, and Gray – well, he’s just downright sexy. Faith’s search for the truth about the devastating scandal surrounding her mother and Gray’s father blazes with intrigue. Add some sultry Southern hear, and you’ve got a real scorcher of a listen." (Linda Howard)

Judy says: "Can I give 6 stars?"
    "Too hot for the gym!"

I listen to books while working out at the gym. I HATE HATE HATE going to the gym, but knowing I can spend an hour listening to a book gets me there at least 3 times a week. I loved this book, and was especially delighted with the wonderful narration. But I think I should have read some of the other reviews more closely -- some parts of it were so hot that I think people were looking at me funny when I was smirking while sweating on the treadmill!! I especially had to make sure my husband wasn't on the treadmill next to me!! Maybe I'll listen to my next Linda Howard in a more private place.

  • Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India, and Indonesia

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 52 mins)
    • By Elizabeth Gilbert
    • Narrated By Elizabeth Gilbert

Around the time Elizabeth Gilbert turned 30, she went through an early-onslaught midlife crisis. She went through a divorce, a crushing depression, another failed love, and the eradication of everything she ever thought she was supposed to be. To recover from all this, Gilbert took a radical step. She got rid of her belongings, quit her job, and undertook a yearlong journey around the world, all alone. This is the absorbing chronicle of that year.

    Kerry says: "Witty and Wonderful"
    "Don't waste your credits!"

A shallow travelogue by a self-centered, narcissistic, would-be princess. Maybe I should have seen the movie instead since I almost always like Julia Roberts, but this audio turned me off so badly, I guess I'll skip the movie. Darn.

  • Barefoot in the Park (Dramatized)

    • ORIGINAL (1 hr and 30 mins)
    • By Neil Simon
    • Narrated By Norman Aronovic, Laura Linney

A brand new lawyer and his young bride have returned from their honeymoon and are moving into their new high-rent apartment. In order to reach this "charming" dwelling, they must first climb six creaking flights of stairs. Once there, they find the place is absolutely bare of furniture, the paint job is all wrong, the skylight leaks, there is room for only one twin bed, and the wacky neighbors pop up at the worst times.

    Fabio says: "A nice treat"
    "Dated, but fun"

It has been years since I've read or seen Barefoot in the Park, so this was an enjoyable trip down memory lane. I had forgotten how long ago it was staged! Enjoyable listen, but I'm glad it wasn't any longer as it would have gotten stale fast.

  • Between, Georgia

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 13 mins)
    • By Joshilyn Jackson
    • Narrated By Joshilyn Jackson
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Nonny Frett understands the meanings of "rock" and "hard place" better than any woman ever born. She's got two mothers, "one deaf-blind and the other four baby steps from flat crazy". She's got two men: her husband, who's easing out the back door; and her best friend, who's laying siege to her heart in her front yard. She has a job that holds her in the city, and she's addicted to a little girl who's stuck deep in the country.

    Karen says: "Great listen!"
    "Great listen!"

I don't usually like books narrated in a southern accent, but I can't imagine this book being read by anyone other than the author. I looked forward to every time I had a chance to listen and didn't want the book to end. The characters were quirky, and not all likeable, but always interesting. Flawed yet somehow loveable. The story line had enough twists to keep it interesting. I hate to go to the gym and only go so I can listen to a book; this one got me there more often than any other in a long, long time!

  • Brokeback Mountain

    • UNABRIDGED (1 hr and 4 mins)
    • By Annie Proulx
    • Narrated By Campbell Scott
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Ennis del Mar and Jack Twist, two ranch hands, come together when they're working as sheepherder and camp tender one summer on a range above the tree line. At first, sharing an isolated tent, the attraction is casual, inevitable, but something deeper catches them that summer.

JR says: "Finally! Someone gets it."
    "Great read!"

Better than the movie, which was too long.

  • A Walk to Remember

    • UNABRIDGED (4 hrs and 34 mins)
    • By Nicholas Sparks
    • Narrated By Nicholas Sparks

It was 1958, and Landon had already dated a girl or two. He even swore that he had once been in love. Certainly the last person in town he thought he'd fall for was Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town's Baptist minister. Then a twist of fate made Jamie his partner for the homecoming dance, and Landon Carter's life would never be the same.

    Andrea says: "A"
    "Not my favorite book"

I've liked other Nicolas Sparks' books, but this one was just too predictable and too "sweet." I probably wouldn't have finished it if I weren't listening while on the treadmill and doing my Nautilus routine. The narration was lovely, though, and did help keep my attention.

  • Breaking the Rules

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By Barbara Taylor Bradford
    • Narrated By Katherine Kellgren
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Following a terrifying encounter in the quiet English countryside, a young woman flees to New York in search of a new life. Adopting the initial M as her name, and reinventing herself, she embarks on a journey that will lead her to the catwalks of Paris, where she becomes the muse and star model to France's iconic designer Jean-Louis Tremont.

    Karen says: "Just OK"
    "Just OK"

I usually love Barbara Taylor Bradford's books, and have especially loved the Emma Harte series, but this one took way too long to get very interesting and then went on way too long, without much in the way of character development or new plot lines. When Jonathan Ainsley finally emerged as the villain, again(!), the book was more than half over!! Maybe I would have like this better as a read than as an audio since I could have skipped over many sections. Basically I was disappointed.

  • Blood Work

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 41 mins)
    • By Michael Connelly
    • Narrated By Dick Hill
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Thanks to a heart transplant, former FBI agent Terrell McCaleb is enjoying a quiet retirement, renovating the fishing boat he lives on in Los Angeles Harbor. But McCaleb's calm seas turn choppy when a story in the "What Happened To?" column of the LA Times brings him face-to-face with the sister of the woman whose heart now beats in his chest.

Andrew Stone says: "A Darn Good Book"
    "Love Harry"

We love Harry, but this book was too long and too convoluted, especially as an audiobook. We listened to this as we traveled to Florida from NH, starting it the second day, and didn't finish it before we arrived. Once there, it took us nearly four weeks of 20 minute "listens" enroute to somewhere to finish it. Don't get me wrong -- we both love Connelly's Harry books; we just might consider the length before purchasing next time. A "read" might be better than a "listen."
