Jill Farrow is a typical suburban mom who has finally gotten her and her daughter's lives back on track after a divorce. She is about to remarry, her job as a pediatrician fulfills her - though it is stressful - and her daughter, Megan, is a happily overscheduled thirteen-year-old juggling homework and the swim team. But Jill’s life is turned upside down when her ex-stepdaughter, Abby, shows up on her doorstep late one night and delivers shocking news: Jill’s ex-husband is dead. Abby insists that he was murdered and pleads with Jill to help find his killer.

This book wasn???t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I have always enjoyed Lisa Scottoline's books before. This book would be a disappointment for any fans of hers.

What was most disappointing about Lisa Scottoline???s story?

The characters were unsympathetic. The narration was overly dramatic and some of the characters appeared to be constantly whining. It was very difficult to care for the characters or the storyline. All of the characters were very unrealistic.

Would you be willing to try another one of Maggi-Meg Reed???s performances?

I would listen to the sample of her narration before purchasing another book.

What character would you cut from Come Home?

    The youngest daughter.

    Any additional comments?

I will continue to watch for this author but will probably rely on reviews before making another purchase.

When a body is found floating in the sea off Portsmouth harbour, Detective Inspector Horton initially judges it to be an accidental death. Soon though he discovers he’s got it very wrong. Accused of being incompetent by his boss, and with the head of the Major Crime Team coming down heavily on him, Horton wonders if he’s allowed his on-going investigation into the disappearance of his mother to cloud his judgement.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

It would have been better if there were fewer characters- There were so many characters that it was difficult to feel for more than the primary character, Andy Horton.

What was most disappointing about Pauline Rowson’s story?

The story was difficult to follow because there was a lot of extra information. The story was similar to a stream of consciousness- too much information that distracted from the story.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The characters all sounded very similar. I find it difficult to follow a narration when there are minimal differences in the speaking patterns and voices between the characters.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No

In the wild, when a wolf knows its time is over, when it knows it is of no more use to its pack, it may sometimes choose to slip away. Dying apart from its family, it stays proud and true to its nature. Humans aren’t so lucky. Luke Warren has spent his life researching wolves. He has written about them, studied their habits intensively, and even lived with them for extended periods of time.

Elle in the Great NorthWest says: "Typical Jodi Picoult plot, chik lit but good"

Would you listen to Lone Wolf again? Why?

Yes. I love stories where I learn information (in this case about wolves) as well as listen about characters and the events in their lives.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Edward- I really felt for him and his struggles. I admired his willingness to see his own challenges as well as to do something about them.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

I love Jodi Picoult's books because each chapter is from the viewpoint of an individual character as the storyline progresses- this group of narrators captures the individual characters and helped me created a vision of them in my mind.

If you could take any character from Lone Wolf out to dinner, who would it be and why?

    I would keep them all.

    Any additional comments?

I have recently started listening to Jodi Picoult's books and I have really loved them all so far. I would imagine that these are better to listen to than to read- at least for me. The group of narrators and the way each chapter is set up is a real plus to me for listening to the story over reading the story.

It could have been just any night, and they could have just been any two brothers - but it wasn't, and they weren't. The scene is an Atlanta bar. The music is loud and the dance floor is packed. The good-looking brother picks up a girl. But when dark deeds ensue out in the parking lot, what happens next can only be described in two words: vintage Slaughter. From the opening scene to the last line, "Thorn in My Side" is as wicked as it is entertaining.

What made the experience of listening to Thorn in My Side the most enjoyable?

The narration was wonderful. You really saw and heard the separate identities of each of the characters. The storyline was so unusual that it was very engrossing. As I listener, I felt all of the range of the emotions of the characters- humor, sadness, anger and fright.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The relationship between both brothers was very complex and very interesting.

What about Christopher Lane???s performance did you like?

He nailed it! This is one story that I am betting is better to listen to than to read. He created the individual identities of the brothers through his narration. He was humorous and although the story was raunchy and sad his narration made me want to hear it until the end.

Who was the most memorable character of Thorn in My Side and why?

Both brothers were each memorable in their own way.

    Any additional comments?

This is such a departure from previous Karin Slaughter stories but I really enjoyed it and was glad that I listened to it. It really stayed with me.

Two young women are found murdered in Oslo, both drowned in their own blood. Media coverage quickly reaches fever pitch: Could this be the work of a serial killer? The crime scenes offer no coherent clues, the police investigation is stalled, and the one man who might be able to help doesn't want to be found. Traumatized by his last case, Inspector Harry Hole has lost himself in the squalor of Hong Kong's opium dens. Yet when he is compelled, at last, to return to Norway - his father is dying - Harry's buried instincts begin to take over. Then a female MP is discovered brutally murdered.

If you could sum up The Leopard in three words, what would they be?

I am a Harry Hole fan- the stories are always great and the characters are complex. Even though Harry is self-destructive, I always root for him to succeed. You care about the main character so you care about the story.

What does Robin Sachs bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

Robin Sachs is a great actor and narrator and his reading makes you

Would you listen to Dog Tags again? Why?

I read and enjoy mystery books of all kinds. This book was a great one to listen to because it was lighter than most and was easy to follow. I like to read or listen to books like this especially after finishing an emotionally charged book. The characters in this book are endearing and the references to animals are enjoyable. Mr. Gardner's narration is especially good. It is easy for me to hear the different characters and their individual personalities come through. This is the third book I have listened to by David Rosenfelt and I have enjoyed them all. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mysteries or stories involving animals.

One of America’s most popular authors, Jodi Picoult has earned a reputation for crafting riveting, topical fiction. In House Rules she examines how being different can have dire consequences. Teenager Jacob Hunt has Asperger’s syndrome. A forensic science wizard, he follows his scanner to show up at crime scenes and give law enforcement officials his advice.

Charlotte says: "Great book until the ending"
    "Characters to care about"
    Overall

This was my first book by Jodi Picoult. The author appears to understand the specific qualities and quirks of someone with Aspergers. The characters are realistic and very easy to empathize with. The ensemble cast of narrators were terrific to listen to. The ending was tied up a little too snugly and quickly in contrast to the book where there was development of plot and characters.

It is the middle of the 20th century, and in a home economics program at a prominent university, real babies are being used to teach mothering skills to young women. For a young man raised in these unlikely circumstances, finding real love and learning to trust will prove to be the work of a lifetime. In this captivating novel, bestselling author Lisa Grunwald gives us the sweeping tale of an irresistible hero and the many women who love him.

The story's main character Henry House was neither irresistible or charming. It was difficult to develop any positive feelings, understanding or sympathy for any of the characters in the book.
