Lt. Sam Starrett, one of America's elite warriors, shows up at his ex-wife's home only to discover that his daughter is gone and a woman's body lies brutally murdered on the floor. FBI agent Alyssa Locke, who once was involved with Sam, is assigned to the case, and soon explosive information surfaces that links Sam to an unsolved assassination plot. With her reputation hanging in the balance, Alyssa must arrest a man she believes to be innocent or risk her career.

First the good news. The reader has a nice voice and reads well. Now the bad. This book is utter tripe! It is bodice ripper disguised as a suspence novel with an improbable plot and characters that are simply not believable. If you like romance novels (I don't) this may be a good choice but I tired of it early, stuck with it as long as I could and finally switched over to radio.

"They say even the most damned man can be forgiven. I never believed that until the night Astrid opened her door to me and made this feral beast want to be human again. Made me want to love and be loved. But how can an ex-slave whose soul is owned by a Greek goddess ever dream of touching, let alone holding, a fiery star?"

This was the first of this series that I have listened to. I love the Dresden series (even Ghost Story) and am generally a fan of Vampire/Fantasy books and movies. This was disappointing. I liked the reader. Great voice. But unless you are a fan of the bodice ripper genre I would not recommend this book. Not much action and alot of repetitive sex scenes filled with gratuitous superlatives.
