The classic police procedural meets cutting-edge science in this huge international best seller. Already a runaway bestseller in France, Syndrome E tells the story of beleaguered detective Lucie Henebelle, whose old friend has developed a case of spontaneous blindness after watching an extremely rare—and violent—film from the 1950s. Embedded in the film are subliminal images so unspeakably heinous that Lucie realizes she must get to the bottom of it—especially when nearly everyone who comes into contact with the film starts turning up dead.

Stunning book with a unique plot that manages to tie-in film history and neurology. Incredibly entertaining with one of the most unique main characters I've ever encountered. Bizarre and graphic, yet genuinely touching. A book that, while somewhat far-fetched, also rings true...very-much like life. Highly recommend.

I love this book, this series, this character. Love. It. A series that started as a clumsy yet endearing first book has matured into a heartfelt, meaningful and insightful window into the human condition...into life on this little blue sphere and the powerful beauty that humans are capable of, even in the face of absolute evil. These books just can't arrive fast enough. And the audio book, as read by James Marsters, is so epic, so soulful and genuine that I found myself moved to tears in public 4 times. Seriously. I wish I could meet Jim Butcher again and thank him for the joy that his imagination, his books have brought to my life. Do yourself a favor and allow yourself to enjoy the Harry Dresden thrill ride.

One question, a split-second decision, and Brian Darby lies dead on the kitchen floor. His wife, state police trooper Tessa Leoni, claims to have shot him in self-defense, and bears the bruises to back up her tale. For veteran detective D. D. Warren it should be an open-and-shut case. But where is their six-year-old daughter? As the homicide investigation ratchets into a frantic statewide search for a missing child, D. D. Warren must partner with former lover Bobby Dodge to break through the blue wall of police brotherhood, seeking to understand the inner workings of a trooper’s mind while also unearthing family secrets.

Incredibly enjoyable read that will not disappoint. Clever with a breath-taking pace, beautifully flawed characters that manage to make a far-fetched plot seem plausible. While you might find yourself suffering a bit from whiplash by the end, you will never guess who is the actual "bad-guy" 'til revealed. The true strength of Gardner's writing is the inner monologue of her characters, and this book is a perfect example. While I found the ending a little hollow, over-all an enjoyable book.

Alex Miller is a criminal defense lawyer leading the life he always imagined. At thirty-five, he is the youngest partner at New York City's most prestigious law firm, with a beautiful wife and a perfect daughter. When Alex's father suddenly passes away, Alex is introduced to Michael Ohlig, a rich and powerful man who holds an almost mythical place in his family lore. But Alex is surprised when Ohlig admits that he's in serious legal trouble, accused of crimes involving hundreds of millions of dollars.

    Story

This book reads like a self-consumed diary of a teenager. So much time is spent going over and over and OVER the flirting and building relationship between Alex and his associate that the story is lost. Frankly, I didn't care about Alex (or any other character, for that matter) enough to care about his possible extra-marital affair. I got to that point in this book where I ask myself "Do I care about this character? Do I want to know what happens to him?". With this book, the definitive answer was no. Moved on, didn't finish, and that's saying a lot. Disappointed I wasted a credit on this.

Miriam Black knows when you will die. Still in her early twenties, she’s foreseen hundreds of car crashes, heart attacks, strokes, suicides, and slow deaths by cancer. But when Miriam hitches a ride with truck driver Louis Darling and shakes his hand, she sees that in thirty days he will be gruesomely murdered while he calls her name. Miriam has given up trying to save people; that only makes their deaths happen. No matter what she does, she can’t save Louis. But if she wants to stay alive, she’ll have to try.

Beyond the stunning beautiful cover art...the story started out great, but has a major flaw in the main character. Without giving too much away, would Miriam REALLY stay with such an absolute jerk? Even when threatened with what he did? I doubt it. If Miriam is really this femme-fatale-road-weary-general-badass, I seriously doubt she'd let anybody push her around. It felt like a cop-out on behalf of the author...like he couldn't figure out a more plausible motivation. Beyond that, I found Wendig's writing style enjoyable and the narrator was wonderful.
