  • Hounded: The Iron Druid Chronicles, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 11 mins)
    • By Kevin Hearne
    • Narrated By Luke Daniels
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

    "Enjoyable action packed narrative"

I chose this novel based on the synopsis and the sample of the narrator. I was unfamiliar with the series and the author. And I've been delightfully surprised. I very much enjoyed the story arc. The characters are well developed and intriguing. I was curious enough to look up the author's web page and found more interesting background information and - Joy! - more novels in the series. I like to follow series characters and as long as Kevin Hearne continues to offer adventures and challenges of Atticus O'Sullivan's life, I will be a dedicated follower. If you enjoy wizardry, fantasy, good vs evil and epics about ancient gods, mixed in with a bit modern dry wit, you will most likely enjoy this story. I feel the narrator did a great job with Atticus's personality. I will be enjoying this story and those to follow many times. And perhaps more importantly to the author, I'll be yakking to all who will listen about the latest great book I've found.

  • Ghost Story: The Dresden Files, Book 13

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 56 mins)
    • By Jim Butcher
    • Narrated By John Glover
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When we last left the mighty wizard detective Harry Dresden, he wasn't doing well. In fact, he had been murdered by an unknown assassin. But being dead doesn't stop him when his friends are in danger. Except now he has nobody, and no magic to help him. And there are also several dark spirits roaming the Chicago shadows who owe Harry some payback of their own. To save his friends - and his own soul - Harry will have to pull off the ultimate trick without any magic....

Bill says: "Not the best audio book in the series"
"This one pretty much agrees with the previous"

I also wanted to chime in on the narrator. He is obviously talented, but as others have pointed out, just not quite the same as what we've come to recognize in the characters voices with James Marsters.
Also, I agree that Mr. Glover’s inflection and tone made Harry sound older.
This distressing difference won't keep me from purchasing another book if read by Mr. Glover. But if it is another installment of "The Dresden Files," then, yes, I'll skip the audio.
We're only human. We can't help that we become accustomed to certain voices in our audio library.
Take heed persons who make these decisions. Read the reviews and note that the fans have spoken!

  • First Grave on the Right: Charley Davidson, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 58 mins)
    • By Darynda Jones
    • Narrated By Lorelei King
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

A smashing, award-winning debut novel that introduces Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper. Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light”. But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all.

"Entertaining storyline, fun and snarky heroine"

Admittedly, I found this series because I was following the trail of the narrator, Lorelei King. But now I am hooked! I have listened to all three novels in the series, gobbling them up as quickly as I could. I'm eager to get my hands on the fourth installment and a little disappointed that there is an in-between novella only offered in E-book format.

The heroine is quirky, clumsy, and hard headed. She is also loyal, smart, intuitive, and resourceful. All of this plus, she’s the Grim Reaper.

I’ve enjoyed the delivery and inflection Ms King gives to the characters. I’ve fallen so hard for Charley Davidson that I’m buying the books, and twittering away for all to rush out and buy the stories. I especially like the way each chapter begins with a quote. I want T-shirts of all of them!
