I am completely enthralled by this book. Neal creates moving pictures from each characters view as the book rumbles along uniting 21st century technology with 6th century militant religion culminating in a face to face showdown with modern American extremism.
I respect our service men and women. I appreciate that men like Chris are in the business of war. I think I would be horrible at it. However, The Iraq War, was and will always be a travesty of deception and lies. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. The reason why Afghanistan is still unstable is because The United States turned its back on a global coalition that had formed to stop al-Queda. Instead W, whom I voted for, Rove, Dick, and Rummey should be tried for treason. They turned the people of Islam against us. The Iraq War created groups like ISIS. The Iraq War has ensured that the US will be fighting the War in the Middle East for decades to come.
Civil disobedience is an American Virtue. Standing against an illegal, unjust, immoral war would have been the courageous thing to do.
Kind of a predictable yawner. This one is not my style, but I shall soldier on.
I am fascinated by performance measurement. I like David Parmenter's work, but the narration is a snoozer.
As always the story is magnificent. Roy Dotrice, through the first three books, was flawless! Amazing range of vocal characterization and acting ability. Well Done! However, the last two books, the voices no longer match the characters. Dani now sounds very similar to Asha. I jumped back to Storm of Swords and Dani's voice is completely different.
I find myself getting confused as I immediately identify the voice with a different character. Such a shame, great book, great voice work....till now anyway.
