I could only complete half of the book. While I liked the story, I could not listen to this narrator any further.
I liked the historical aspect as I have not seen anyone write about this time period of British history before.
I have listened to many, many books since I joined Audible and I knew I would run across a book that I wanted to like, but whose narration would prevent it. This is that book. The narrator's timing is choppy at best, just plain off at worst. He seems to be trying so hard to enunciate each word that, to me, it sounds as if an elementary school child is giving a speech. I tried to continue, hoping that perhaps I could get used to the rhythm and cadence but I just could not. If I want to continue this series I'll have to read it. I can not listen to this narrator any further.
First let me say I LOVED the performance and story. Kate and Michael did an excellent job, as always, with narration. Kudos to both. The story was an incredible follow up to the Path of Dragons. I have no complaints with either story or performance.
However, post production lacked any Quality Control in my opinion. The book has 35 chapters, but the audio file shows 230+ chapters when listening from the cloud. No OTHER book in the series so far is broken up like this. You cannot fast forward or back a chapter as it takes you to points within the chapter. Worse than this is the repeats. I stopped counting after 20 times, the same passage was repeated throughout the story. This was extremely irritating! I expect better from a professionally made audio book.
I loved this writer's style. The banter between characters (especially his dog) is Laugh Out Loud funny. In addition he portrays the druidic faith quite accurately (for a work of fiction).
Too hard to pin down what I liked
Luke gives each character it's own voice....especially the dog. I would have never
Hexed - What witches do. Vexed - What a very old Druid becomes. Perplexed - What the rest of us experiences.
