Take one look at Kevin Smith: He's a balding fatty who wears a size XXL hockey jersey, shorts, and slippers year-round. Not a likely source for life advice. But take a second look at Kevin Smith: He changed filmmaking forever when he was twenty-four with the release of Clerks, and since then has gone on to make nine more profitable movies, runs his own production company, wrote a best-selling graphic novel, and has a beautiful wife and kids. So he must be doing something right.

I love Kevin Smith and have always enjoyed his movies, especially his early ones. He’s a New Jersey guy like myself. He is a huge hockey fan like myself. And like myself, he is a huge George Carlin fan.

He is a great writer and I loved hearing about the making of his movies and especially loved hearing about his saga with Bruce Willis. I also loved hearing about Wayne Gretzky. I may need to purchase that book too now.

In any event, this is a great book and is very funny right from the very beginning up until the very end.

Smith also does a great job narrating too. Two thumbs up!!

As lead vocalist for the iconic rock band Queen, Freddie Mercury's unmatched skills as a songwriter and his flamboyant showmanship made him a superstar and Queen a household name. But despite his worldwide fame, few people ever really glimpsed the man behind the glittering facade. Now, more than 20 years after his death, those closest to Mercury are finally opening up about this pivotal figure in rock 'n' roll. Based on more than a hundred interviews with key figures in his life, Mercury offers the definitive account of one man's legendary life in the spotlight and behind the scenes.

Freddie was a genius who was so far ahead of his time and I absolutely loved this book. Such a great listen, very well produced. Feels just like a bunch of great interviews mixed in by a narrator. So good! Not just about Freddie too though, this book takes the listener down Rock and Roll history Lane.... Loved hearing about so many other artists I like, and their connetion with the band, such as: Elton John, Boontown Rats, David Bowe, Michael Jackson, The Darkness, Spandau Ballet, Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Hendrix and so many others! Absolutely brilliant. A must have for all who love Freddie and Queen.

Justin Barber said that he and his wife, April, were tipsy and amorous, having celebrated their third wedding anniversary with dinner and cocktails, as they strolled along the water's edge in Jacksonville, Florida, on August 17, 2002. That's when a strange man approached the couple in an attempted robbery that left April dead, according to Justin's testimony. But when police looked deeper into the case, the details didn't add up.

Too good to be true and yet it was... If it wasn't true, it'd be comical. Crazy to think someone thought they could actually get away with this. Book is also well produced and has a great narrator too.

His abductors forced him to a lying position in the box, placed a lid on top, jammed in four lengths of 3/4-inch plastic pipe for breathing tubes, and started shoveling in dirt to fill the hole. To cover their handiwork, they scattered some worn-out tires over the burial site. Then they drove away.

Channels is great for its short content. I mean how bad could something be if it's just a few minutes? In this case, it's the exact opposite, and I wish it was a little longer. The narration is excellent and the overall story line is a solid one, especially considering it's based on a true story!

In this stunning new book, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers" - the best and the brightest, the most famous and the most successful. He asks the question: what makes high achievers different? His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like and too little attention to where they are from: that is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing.

I found this book to be super interesting. Some of the facts and data are outstanding and really hit home for me.

Right from the start, the first chapter on hockey is excellent. Makes so much sense too. Amazes me how we could have such a broken process and yet not even think about it or talk about fixing it so that it's fair and equal to all regardless of when they were born.

The chapter pertaining to "culture" was also extremely intriguing.

Well written and the author does a great job using facts and research to prove his points. Even better, the narrator is terrific and does a fine job keeping the material interesting to the very end.

Overall, I thought this was a very insightful title as it showed me new and different ways to look at things, especially when the chips are down. Also I found the length of the book perfect as I was able to listen to it several times to really drive home some of the key points. The narrator was really good too. A must listen for all.

    Story

Who Moved My Cheese is a cute tale about change itself and how those who resist change can get left behind while those who embrace change can blossom and in fact, those who embrace change may even become better for it. In a specific example covered in the book, they were so worried about change that they didn’t even realize that the change could lead more cheese and in some cases, better cheese altogether. To put this in our own terms – while change is fearsome because of the unknown, one also needs to realize that the “unknown” doesn’t necessarily mean bad or worse and in the book we see that in this case - change happens and it’s a good thing for all.

While this is just a fun tale, the analogy is one we can all learn from and relate to. In all walks of life and in whatever we do in life, humans will face change and how they deal with that change will affect them for better and/or for worse depending on the person. That said – move with the cheese and if you are able to embrace change you can become a better person from it.
