Like handshakes or housepets, many things are preferable when not slippery. Unfortunately, in this miserable volume, I am afraid that Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire run into more than their fair share of slipperiness during their harrowing journey up, and down, a range of strange and distressing mountains.

Tim Curry does an excellent job narrating. He pauses in all the right places and even made me laugh out loud at times. If you already love this series, the aubiobook will make you love it even more.

First published in monthly parts from March 1852 to September 1853, this novel follows the fortunes of three pedestrian characters; Esther Summerson, Ada Clare, and Richard Carstone. The story they tell embondies Dickens' merciless indictment of the Court of Chancery and its bungling, morally corrupt handling of the endless case of Jarndyce v. Jarndyce, giving the novel its scope and meaning.

    Overall

I bought this title to prepare for an upcoming mini-series of Bleak House. I found this a very interactive read. The audiobook is engaging and is read a good pace. It is very easy to understand the plot of the story. There are a lot of characters and I did have to look up a list of characters in order to keep them straight in the beginning, but by the end they are fleshed out.

The varied characters made me laugh such as Richard, the young man who is always trying new careers. Mrs Jellyby who is obsessed with saving children in Borrioboola. And the entire Smallweed family that "has had no child born to it, and that the complete little men and women whom it has produced, have been observed to bear a likeness to old monkeys with something depressing on their minds."

This quote, and others are read in a very "deadpan" manner.

Also, I did not notice any poor quality in the audio of past reviews. I listened on "4."

I am sorry to say that the lives of the Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, are filled with bad luck and misery. All of the stories about these three children are unhappy and wretched, and this one may be the worst of them all.

"Quirky author brings book to life"
    Overall

The Series of Unfortunate Event books are quirky. Daniel Handler is a quirky guy. While he is not a professional actor, I find his reading to fit perfectly in with the tone of the books. It is like your dad reading you a funny book at bedtime. Personally I find his characterization of Mr. Poe and Aunt Josephine to be spectacular. It makes me laugh out loud everytime I listen to this audiobook.
