I had headaches from stress and anxiety. I have had them for months. I got this audiobook a while back but didn't much believe it. Finally, out of desperation, I decided to listen to it once a day and within 4 days, my headaches eased up. I don't know if it will last, but I feel better. Can't explain it, but something is going on. Surprised me.

Why we think it’s a great listen: If you ever thought history was boring, David McCullough’s performance of his fascinating book will change your mind. In this stirring audiobook, McCullough tells the intensely human story of those who marched with General George Washington in the year of the Declaration of Independence, when the whole American cause was riding on their success.

    Overall

I thought this book was a good read, interesting and a new perspective. What I didn't know was taht the author was criticised for fabricating historical evidence for some of his controversial matter. If you want an interesting audio book, its good, but if you're interested in pure history, maybe you
should look at another author. I had a web site listed where the author's facts are brought into question, but that's not allowed in a review, so look into it yourself. I believe a book that is historical non-fiction should not have elements of fiction in it, unless that is listed as its purpose.

In this stirring audiobook, David McCullough tells the intensely human story of those who marched with General George Washington in the year of the Declaration of Independence, when the whole American cause was riding on their success, without which all hope for independence would have been dashed and the noble ideals of the Declaration would have amounted to little more than words on paper.

The life of Harry S. Truman is one of the greatest of American stories, filled with vivid characters and dramatic events. In this riveting biography, acclaimed historian David McCullough not only captures the man, a more complex, informed, and determined man than ever before imagined, but also the turbulent times in which he rose, boldly, to meet unprecedented challenges.

I wanted to buy this book for my wife who loves history of this era. When I sent her a copy of the audible book listing, she became upset about it. This is why. This author was highly criticised for fabricating historical documents and facts in the below article. If you're interested in pure history, maybe you should look at the link below or find another author. http://hnn.us/articles/157.html

  • Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right

Finding logical inconsistencies, factual errors, and doublespeak wherever he looks, Al Franken takes on and destroys the myth of liberal bias in the media, hoists the Bush White House on its own rhetorical petard, and punctures the mean-spirited sanctimony of such media darlings as Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly. Timely, provocative, unfailingly honest, and always uproarious, Lies is sure to raise hackles and spark hilarity inside the Beltway and from sea to shining sea.

Funny... yes to a liberal. Political... very. Thought provoking...no. Polemical.... definitely. Fair and unbiased...not on your life. I used to be a liberal. Now, I'm not. Take for what it's worth. It will reinforce your dislike of conservatives if you are already biased.

Going beyond the shallow distinction between a "true" peaceful Islam and the "hijacked" Islam of terrorist groups, Robert Spencer probes the Qur'an and other sacred documents, as well as Islamic traditions and history and the present-day situation of the Muslim world, to find out why the world's fastest-growing faith tends to arouse extremism.

If anyone says this examination is sterotyped, they probably have a bias of the material. Many sides of each issue are presented and thoroughly researched. There is historical and modern evidence for a thought-provoking examination. The reader is somewhat hard to understand at times when driving 55+ with noise.

  • Silent Running: My Years on a World War II Attack Submarine

In this riveting personal account, an authentic American hero relives the perils and triumphs of eight harrowing patrols aboard one of America's most successful World War II submarines. Courageous deeds and terror-filled moments - as well as the endless hard work of maintaining and operating a combat sub - are vividly recalled in Calvert's candid portrait.

julie says: "A fascinating view of WW2 Sub Warfare"
    "Good history"
    Overall

Some titles are historical and dry. This one is entertaining, insightful, and will make you laugh at times. After a while, you get to know the crews, the routine, the tests of submarine life in and out of the sub. Didn't like some of the weak recording at times, but definitely a very good listen!
