"Average book"
Not sure
Going deeper in the issues the book brings up rather than just merely stating the facts as a series of events.
The narrator should have used a different "voice" for Rahab as a child. The way Rahab's voice as a child was delivered did not come accross as authentic.
"History comes alive"
Yes
Billie. He was witty and kind.
No, I have not listed to John Lee before.
No extreme emotions, but I did find the book very interesting.
I enjoyed getting a glimpse of the world during WW I.
"Psychological warefare"
The narrator and the intricate story line
When Victory asks to not play those games anymore with her grandmother.
Annie/Ophelia
Not extreme, but it made me feel sorry for Annie/Ophelia because of the card life played her. I also felt sorry for Marlow. His path in life could have been different had he been parented by another set of adults.
"Captavating"
The narrator and the story itself
Yes. It was interested how the author uncovered the secret incrementally.
Jake - he was truely the victim of the system as well as the power driven characters in the book
The way Ridley's mom was treated by men in general. Made me feel sorry for her.
Lisa Unger is a great author.
"Must read/listen!"
First
Marcus' redemption
When Haddasah uncovers herself to Julia
Yes. Definitely!
We need more books like this one.
"The best book I ever listened to!"
Yes!
My favorite character was Hadassah because of her simplicity in loving God and her unique way of seeing things for what they were not what they appeared to be.
His voice is absolutely amazing to listen to. His inflections and intonations bring up the most important parts of what the character is experiencing. This happens to the point that the narrator disappears in the story creating the impression that you are listening to the actual characters speaking and not just one person.
There were multiple moments in the book that moved me: when Hadassah saves Julia from her husband's rath, when Marcus abstains from deflowering Haddasah, the arena scene and Haddasah courage.
Listening to the book, I cried and lamented as well as laughed and smiled with the characters!
"Funny story"
Yes. It was entertaining.
The most interesting aspect was the betting going on between the main characters.
Possibly.
Not really.
"Excellent book!"
Interesting, captivating, informative.
Steve Jobs asked a person who they were. When they answered something like "accounting", he replied: "Oh, you're overhead!"
Made me laugh at times.
I'm very glad I got this book!
