Every schoolchild is taught the great turning points in American history, such as Gettysburg, Pearl Harbor, the Kennedy assassination, and 9/11. But other, equally significant events have altered our destiny without being understood---or even widely noticed. Acclaimed conservative historian Larry Schweikart now takes an in-depth look at seven such episodes and reveals the profound ways they have shaped America.

This is a great book! it shows how there has been a subtle domino effect thought out American history. All those little events lead us to where we are now. This is an interesting and entertaining eye opener.
I like the fact that the author did not lean left or right.
The the guy who said this book had a right wing slant; all I can say is this is the first time I heard it explained that Reagan screwed up, and that screw up lead to 9-11

This national best seller is an entertaining, informative, and sometimes shocking expose of the way history is taught to American students. Lies My Teacher Told Me won the American Book Award and the Oliver Cromwell Cox Award for Distinguished Anti-Racist Scholarship.

This could have been an awesome book. Event hough the author points out many facts missing from the history books, he leaves out many, many more facts. He is guilty of doing exactly what he accuses the history books of doing; trying to make history fit his ideals and agenda. This book was filled more with opinion than historical facts.

This ends up being history purely from the Liberal lefts point of view.
If this guy really cared about history he would have stuck to the facts and not just picked items (and speculation) that perpetuates his liberal view point only.
