  • Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?: A Rock 'n' Roll Memoir

The son of a classical pianist straight out of the Bronx of old Archie comics, Steven Tyler was born to be a rock star. Weaned on Cole Porter, Nat King Cole, Mick and his beloved Janis Joplin, Tyler began tearing up the streets and the stage as a teenager before finally meeting his "mutant twin" and legendary partner, Joe Perry. In this addictively listenable memoir, Tyler unabashedly recounts the meteoric rise, fall, and rise of Aerosmith over the last three decades and riffs on the music that gives it all meaning.

What did you love best about Does the Noise in My Head Bother You??

His use of language and his delivery of the story. Also, I am stunned that with all the drugs etc. he can remember details most would not remember.

What did you like best about this story?

    The honesty.

What about Jeremy Davidson???s performance did you like?

It felt like he was telling a story and not reading it. I kept forgetting it was not Steven who was narrating. His inflections etc. were spot-on narrating.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Too many to mention.

    Any additional comments?

Steven is extremely talented as a blues musician but I find his high-pitched screaming/singing tough to listen to. (The last part of the book was read by Tylerico himself)

I do respect him as an author and performer.

As a photographer, I'd love to shoot him and Joe Perry. I have shot Jimi and Marley.

On location in Boston, bad-boy actor Jumbo Nelson is accused of the rape and murder of a young woman. From the start the case seems fishy, so the Boston PD calls on Spenser to investigate. Things don't look so good for Jumbo, whose appetites for food, booze, and sex are as outsized as his name. He was the studio's biggest star, but he's become its biggest liability...

What made the experience of listening to Sixkill the most enjoyable?

Joe Mantegna's delivery. He has an "easy" voice and doesn't sound as if he is reading.

Have you listened to any of Joe Mantegna???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes... right up there with his other work. He is a "class act".

    Any additional comments?

The author over-uses "He said, I said, he said" etc. Once he gets past that virtually every time a character speaks, the book is easier to listen to. I do like his repartee. I miss watching "Spencer for Hire."

In Why We Suck, Dr. Denis Leary uses his common sense, and his biting and hilarious take on the world, to attack the politically correct, the hypocritical, the obese, the thin - basically everyone who takes themselves too seriously. He does so with the extra oomph of a doctorate bestowed upon him by his alma mater Emerson College. "Sure it's just a celebrity type of thing - they only gave it to me because I'm famous." Leary explains.

Would you consider the audio edition of Why We Suck to be better than the print version?

Have not read the print version...

Who was your favorite character and why?

He is... because of his wit and his machine gun delivery.

What does Dr. Denis Leary bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

Inflection and intonation as well as the fast pace.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Uh, uh...

    Any additional comments?

Glad to hear him narrate rather than someone else read his work.

From the larger, louder half of the world-famous magic duo Penn & Teller comes a scathingly funny reinterpretation of The Ten Commandments. They are The Penn Commandments, and they reveal one outrageous and opinionated atheist’s experience in the world.

What made the experience of listening to God, No! the most enjoyable?

His secular overview which makes sense and doesn't rely on blind faith. It confirms my view of life and the universe.

What other book might you compare God, No! to and why?

    no other

What about Penn Jillette???s performance did you like?

His obvious sincerity and his sense of humor.

Where does ScreamFree Marriage rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

    Top 20%

What other book might you compare ScreamFree Marriage to and why?

    No other...

    Which scene was your favorite?

    N/A

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen to it while performing rote work in a plastics factory. I probably would have listened while doing yard work or computing.

    Any additional comments?

Having gone through therapy I recognize a parallel theme so I have had that reinforced. It is important to "look through a different window" sometimes to see more clearly. This book has helped me to do so.

    I do recommend it.
