When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it at first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

Having never read Harry Potter, since children were already grown,I was interested to hear the author's style and can now see, after listening to just 1/3, how the story just pulls you in. Rowling touches on so many areas of British life, housing projects, drugs, upper class snobbery, Indian immigrants.etc

all of Crystals encounters with social worker

What about Tom Hollander’s performance did you like?

Ken Follett's World Without End was a global phenomenon, a work of grand historical sweep beloved by millions of readers and acclaimed by critics. Fall of Giants is his magnificent new historical epic. The first novel in The Century Trilogy, it follows the fates of five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they move through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women's suffrage.

Would you consider the audio edition of Fall of Giants to be better than the print version?

Am reading the print version of Winter of the Worlld, the next booking he trilogy, and, of course, the various accents done by the narrator are lost. So the audible is definitely better than the print.

What other book might you compare Fall of Giants to and why?

There is a trilogy byJeffrey Archer - also two books so far which is nearly as sweeping in scope of politics, personal scandal, portrayal of class differences in 20th century Britain. Fall of Giants has more diverse characters,.The Clifton Chronicles is the Archer series

What does John Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Authentic accents and inflection

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely, but it was 28 hours
