The Hugo Award-winning author of the critically acclaimed Coyote returns to the setting of his grand novel of interstellar exploration with the continuing epic of Earth's first space colonists - and a tale of revolution against a repressive government to reclaim their world in the name of freedom...

The story is very good. I found some of the story very repetitive. Every character had to reintroduce every other character. It appears the story was written as a series of short stories that have been combined into a single book.

Erik Cain joined the marines to get off death row. The deal was simple; enlist to fight in space and he would be pardoned for all his crimes. In the 23rd Century, assault troops go to war wearing AI-assisted, nuclear-powered armor, but it is still men and blood that win battles. From one brutal campaign to the next, Erik and his comrades fight an increasingly desperate war over the resource rich colony worlds that have become vital to the economies of Earth's exhausted and despotic Superpowers.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jeff Bower’s performances?

No. Mr. Bower's performance reminded me of a college lecture hall performance. His narrator's voice sounds forced and very artificial. His character voices are falsetto and sound like they should be part of anime.

    Any additional comments?

This book is well written and builds the Crimson World story line very nicely. It has made me desire to listen to the next in the series.

Former SEAL Michael Harmon, Team Name ''Ghost'', retired for service injuries, is not enjoying college life. But things are about to change, if not for the better. When he sees a kidnapping, a series of, at the time logical, decisions leave him shot to ribbons and battling a battalion of Syrian commandos with only the help of three naked co-eds who answer to the names ''Bambi,'' ''Thumper'' and ''Cotton Tail.'

Very sexually graphic, to the point of loosing the story.

Story (book) number 2 is more porn than story. I skipped over large portions and did not miss any of the plot. The real story was about 1 - 2 hours at the end.

    I expected better from author.

To the Kleese, the Earth is nothing more than a planet full of conscripts to fight in their numerous wars of aggression. The Kleese are one of three large Galactic Empires that control the majority of the galaxy. To them, Earth is an extremely dangerous planet due to the aggressiveness of the humanoid species that inhabits it. The humans that inhabit Earth will make excellent conscripts, but something must be done to prevent them from expanding out into the galaxy.

Would you listen to Destruction again? Why?

No, not with this narrator. The story line is a very good one. David Rheinstrom reads very fast and this prevents the story from becoming relaxing. I was never able to empathize with the characters because of the frantic pace of the story and narration.

When the human race faces extermination at the hands of an expanding species the last survivors travel a thousand years to reestablish the race ten thousands light years away. It is now a thousand years after the birth of the New Terran Empire. The race has aggressively expanded during that time, with a fleet that has never lost a war against an alien species. But the signs are there, the old enemy is back, and the Fleet will face its greatest challenge in a foe fifty times their size.

The Star Kingdom of Manticore and the Republic of Haven have been enemies for Honor Harrington's entire life, and she has paid a price for the victories she's achieved in that conflict. And now the unstoppable juggernaut of the mighty Solarian League is on a collision course with Manticore. The millions who have already died may have been only a foretaste of the billions of casualties just over the horizon, and Honor sees it coming.

    "More magic than SF"

    Story

This book is waste. The complete Manpower story line is just magic. By Weber’s own description is they are a small but wealthy system who specialize in biotech. I can buy they are the galaxies leader in biotech. So having 2 super advances in that field makes sense. The genetic upgrades they have done is major and I can believe they can control politics. The bio-virus that controls people is believable if your are that deep into genetics. It stays within their expertise. For me at this point it is still SF.

It starts to become magic when they come up with 3 non-biotech advances that are all undetectable.
    1) They made a drive that takes them well into the higher hyper bands.
    2) New sub-light drives that are undetectable using a totally new propulsion system.
    3) A grazer that keeps its’ power but can fit into a missile.

That becomes unbelievable. It would be hard to believe they came up with one of these technologies. You have two naval empires that can not create these technologies with all their research. Then to add insult, Mr. Weber has them create a navy without anybody noticing. Not even the Ballroom!

If they were capable of all this on top of their biotech everybody in the galaxy would be watching them. This has lost its' SF taste.

He tries to compare it to Japan in WWII. No match. Japan did not have any super weapons. They had advances the US did not have. Great Britain had similar technology. They convinced the US they were not advancing their navy, but everybody knew the Japanese had navy. The surprise was where it was located.

The artifact is found seven miles below the surface of the sea and beneath 40 more feet of sand. The Navy's efforts to raise a wrecked submarine uncover it - and set in motion a scientific race to retrieve it, to discover just what it is and where it came from. Denser than any substance known to man, it has broken every drill bit they've tried on it and will not budge an inch. It resists every effort to breach it - or communicate with it.

No one wanted another war. Thomas Theisman didn't. Not after risking his life to overthrow the Committee of Public Safety's reign of terror and restore the Republic of Haven's ancient Constitution. Baron High Ridge didn't. The Prime Minister of Manticore was perfectly happy with the war he had. No one was shooting anyone else at the moment, and his government could continue to milk all those "hostilities only" tax measures for their own partisan projects.
