Katherine Kellgren may be the best narrator I have ever listened to and I listen to many many books while I knit design samples. The story is fun. Jacky is a hoot and the subtle play with mores is wonderful. I love how Jacky becomes more and more aware of just how the female sex is put down and devalued.
Almost done with Book 2 so I downloaded Book 3 to not be without.
Why an adult with Kinsey's reputation and experience would continually follow an immature ex con is beyond me. Yes it made for some exciting scenes but Kinsey should have stopped agreeing with this woman's antics after the first mistake, especially since most of the time she was doing what this woman wanted without even knowing why or how things were supposed to turn out.
I lost a lot of respect for the Kinsey in this book. I hope future books are more mature and responsible otherwise it is just filling up space hoping to get to Z.
This book is not for the faint of heart. It tells in graphic detail what happened to Jews in Nazi Germany and elsewhere during that period. This book also tells about how the US accepted known Nazi criminals into this country in order to help build a nuclear reactor and bomb and gave them US Citizenship.
I enjoyed the science and the interactions especially Lotte, Max and Vic's.
A good follow-up to the opening book but why did the narrator decide to have Daniel, John and Mrs Dawson whispering all the time? Very disconcerting when others talked at normal levels. Almost shut it off several times but the story line kept me going. If she can't do men then she shouldn't be narrating. All the young boys sound the same too.
I have read and listened to all the Phryne Fisher novels and just didn't think another series by the same author could be so good. WRONG. This one is modern, lusty, funny, and again has a heroine who asserts herself and grows. If you have an aversion to the occult or good sex then stay away. Neither overpowers the story but are interwoven well. The narrator, Ms Siversen, does a great job with all the voices too. Looking forward to listening to more.
I love the narrator. He makes it all so alive. Of course Walt's voice is perfect.
I love the thinking involved and self examination of Walt by Walt and his friends. I love the Cheyenne Nation too.
have listened to several in this series but out of order. Am now filling in.
Thank you Mr Johnson and Mr Guidall.
I usually like Cathy Lamb's books but this one misses on many levels.
Most of the characters sound either 4 or 14 years old. How such infantile behavior can be running a corporation is beyond me.
Then add in nightmares told in graphic detail, histories that are horrific and constantly reiterating past bad experiences and I just gave up. I was fast forwarding to the next chapter way too often.
I adore this series and all the characters. So well written, so well read.
Phryne continues to lead by example, astonishing some and influencing many. One of her adopted daughters is the main focus but we also see some circus action and a couple of so called gentlemen brought to justice. I can listen to these books endlessly.
Only gave it a 3 because the narration is good, other wise it would have been a 1 or 2.
Ultra graphic descriptions and gratuitous violence do not make a good book. People being nasty to each other does not make a good book. People rehashing old hurts over and over do not make for positive experiences in a book. All in all I should have passed on this one and any other of Slaughter's latest novels. Dark books like these help us to become inured to real violence.
Jenna Lamia is the best narrator/reader I have listened to.
The story is so wonderful I didn't want it to end. The writing is almost prose. Loved the similies and analogies which brought so many things to life for me. No wonder it's been 3 years since her last book. Beth Hoffman deserves many awards for this novel of a life explored and lived.
This is awful. The sound effects take away from the book. I have an imagination. I don't need someone else's telling me a door closed by a slamming sound, or footsteps either.
The actors seem full of themselves. We have enough non thinkers in this world. This version just adds to that.
