Bingtown is a hub of exotic trade and home to a merchant nobility famed for its liveships---rare vessels carved from wizardwood, which ripens magically into sentient awareness. The fortunes of one of Bingtown's oldest families rest on the newly awakened liveship Vivacia. For Althea Vestrit, the ship is her rightful legacy unjustly denied her---a legacy she will risk anything to reclaim.

I respect the efforts that the narrators put forward, but i agree that this narrator brought me to a halt. I devoured the farseer books and they werent short! Went through them all almost non stop.
This latest narrator halted my addiction on the first 5 minutes. Shes got an unnatural way to modulate her voice for a smoky dramatic effect that isnt needed or wanted. The genuine and honest way the other narrator read was part of what made things so enjoyable. Is satisfaction guaranteed? I'd like to put that credit toward another book, i cant seem to concentrate trying to make out what shes saying.

It's springtime in Styria. And that means war. There have been nineteen years of blood. The ruthless Grand Duke Orso is locked in a vicious struggle with the squabbling League of Eight, and between them they have bled the land white. While armies march, heads roll, and cities burn, behind the scenes bankers, priests, and older, darker powers play a deadly game to choose who will be king.

Lore says: "Solid, but not as good as the First Law trilogy."
    "Unfortunate narrator choice"
    Overall

The narrator sounds like he's awkwardly practicing a play. I wish i could return the purchase and not waste my credit. However good the book may be, i cant bear to listen.
The connection between his tone and what he's saying is superficial. You cant care about the characters when the audiobook doesnt sound genuine.

Sorry to be brutal, im sure the job isnt an easy one, but i had high hopes after listening to the first law trilogy, and i cant enjoy my purchase.

In Leonardo da Vinci, Sherwin Nuland completes his 20-year quest to understand an unlettered man who was a painter, architect, engineer, philosopher, mathematician, and scientist. What was it that propelled Leonardo's insatiable curiosity? Nuland finds clues in his subject's art, relationships, and scientific studies.

Mark Grannis says: "Not enough art, in more ways than one"

Hated it. He sais Leonardo is his hero, and that this book is about his genious, but he doesnt focus on the process of discovery, his passion, or how strongly he was pulled by his obsessions. Doesnt focus on his life at all. Just glosses over everything, and gives you little to admire. Goes over decades of accomplishments without naming them or explaining their genious.
He keeps reffering to his unfinished work on every page. Again, and again, but its ok, since everyone still thinks he's famous. As if THAT were the thing to amaze us.
This book misrepresents the power that was Leonardo da Vinci. The image he paints is one of an irresponsable, aloof slacker that had lots of potential, but nothing to show for it. He died a sad and unaccomplished UNLETTERED MAN.

if you want a REAL book to be awed and inspired by on ancient masters, try the unabridged version of "Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling"

Here is a world where men and dragons coexist amid political intrigue and dark magic, where the uneasy balance of power between the two is on the verge of becoming undone, threatening to unleash waves of destruction that will pit humans against humans as well as dragons against men for the domination of the world. Humanity's very survival is at risk.

Though I do agree that rape is a terrible thing, were talking about a novel with shape shifting dragons. It is indeed a terrible act, but i dont believe every book has to be pure enough for a child and riddled with taboo. Bad guys tend to do bad things that arent Disney friendly. Not a book for pre adolescents, but an ok book anyway. Not as pornographic as the word RAPE tends to make it seem.
