New York book editor Maris Matherly-Reed knows a best seller when she sees one - even if it is just a tantalizing partial manuscript submitted by a writer identified only as P.M.E., with the return address of an obscure island off the Georgia coast. Maris is intrigued enough to search for him.

"If Robert Littell didn't invent the American spy novel," says Tom Clancy, "he should have." In this spectacular Cold-War-as-Alice-in-Wonderland epic, Littell, "the American le Carre," takes us down the rabbit hole and into the labyrinthine world of espionage that has been the CIA for the last half-century. "Ostensibly a single novel, The Company can also be listened to as an anthology of cracking good spy stories," says (Publishers Weekly).

I thought it would be a waste of money to buy this book because I have absolutely no interest in history. I started the book and within a few hours I was completed intrigued by the characters and the plot. I just finished the book and it was wonderful from start to finish and not a minute to short or to long. I would recommend this book to anyone. I learned more about history in this book than I did during my entire life and find myself asking my husband questions "Did these things really happen". I was actually interested in it. Great book! A must read.

High school all-American Neely Crenshaw was the best quarterback to play for the Messina Spartans. 15 years have gone by since those glory days, and Neely has come home to Messina to bury Coach Eddie Rake, the man who molded the Spartans into a football dynasty. Now, as Coach Rake's "boys" sit in the bleachers waiting for the dimming field lights to signal his passing, they replay the old games, relive the old glories, and try to decide once and for all whether they love Eddie Rake – or hate him.

    "Not what you expect"
    Overall

I found the book to be quite slow and definitely not what you expect from Grisham who usually throws a few curve balls. The characters were interesting and I love football but I just never found a plot or a reason to turn on my pocket pc instead of the radio. I was less than excited to finish out the book.

This book in my mind was okay for Grisham. I have enjoyed others a lot more.
