Chicago private investigator Kira Graceling should have just kept on walking. But her sense of duty refused to let her ignore the moans of pain coming from inside a warehouse just before dawn. Suddenly she finds herself in a world she’s only imagined in her worst nightmares.

This was a fun book to read, with some nice humor and great development into one of the characters we have seen over all the books but never really knew much about. I have thouroughly enjoyed these books, and this one does not disappoint. One note: this comes before the fifth book of the Night Huntress series, and after the first Nt Huntress World bk. From the author's website: "Reading order of Night Huntress series including Night Huntress World spin-off novels: HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE; ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE; AT GRAVE’S END; DESTINED FOR AN EARLY GRAVE; FIRST DROP OF CRIMSON; ETERNAL KISS OF DARKNESS; THIS SIDE OF THE GRAVE."

Calla Tor has always known her destiny: After graduating from the Mountain School, she'll be the mate of sexy alpha wolf Ren Laroche and fight with him, side by side, ruling their pack and guarding sacred sites for the Keepers. But when she violates her masters' laws by saving a beautiful human boy out for a hike, Calla begins to question her fate, her existence, and the very essence of the world she has known.

    Story

I bought all three of these books at once, something I rarely do. That is the only reason I stuck out this first book. The first 2/3 of the book is repetitious and full of teenage angst that drove me crazy. The storyline is original, but the explanations about what is happening is revealed too slowly, only coming together the last third of the book. With that said, the last third is good enough to almost redeem the first parts, and the next book does an even better job of making the story into an enjoyable experience.
The story is a unique portrayal of werewolves, or Guardians, having been created as protectors of important relics. The are ruled by Keepers, which Guardians think are the good guys. An internal conflict arises when their actions are questioned by a Guardian and a new-comer. Decisions have to be made and not just orders being followed.

This book is redeeming to the first. Jumping into this book is a refreshing change from the tedious teenage angst of the first book. A different set of characters in this book in the form of Searchers, those the Guardian werewolves believed were the enemy, are more lively and less conflicted about everything. They are preparing to fight the Keepers, those that made the Guardians, to drown out black magic and give the Guardians their freedom. The characters are lively. The plot is a bit predictable at times, but enjoyable all the same.

Eugenie Markham is a powerful shaman who does a brisk trade banishing spirits and fey who cross into the mortal world. Mercenary, yes, but a girl's got to eat. Her most recent case, however, is enough to ruin her appetite. Hired to find a teenager who has been taken to the Otherworld, Eugenie comes face to face with a startling prophecy - one that uncovers dark secrets about her past and claims that Eugenie's first-born will threaten the future of the world as she knows it.

This book is not about pescy teenage angst like the Vampire Academy books (which I enjoyed, for the record.) This is a grownup book for sure, with sexy scenes and themes to go with. Those scenes are hot yet tasteful. I like the storyline and list of characters, being a new twist on the fey and their culture and the Other World. The lead character is a strong woman, that struggles with wanting to dominate and be dominated, personally and in all areas of her life. The outline of the story's basics remind me of The Hollows/Rachel Morgan books by Kim Harrison, another fantasy series I enjoy. I hope the good writing and interesting storyline continue I the next books.

In Such a Pretty Fat, Jen Lancaster learned how to come to terms with her body. In My Fair Lazy, she expanded her mind. Now, the New York Times best-selling author gives herself - and her generation - a kick in the X, by facing her greatest challenge to date: acting her age. Jen is finally ready to put away childish things (except her Barbie Styling Head, of course) and embrace the investment-making, mortgage-carrying, life insurance-having adult she's become.

I was so excited that another Jen Lancaster book was out, I got it as soon as I could, and boy was I not disappointed! And as bonus, the author herself reads it! As with all her other books, I found myself laughing aloud, at times to the point of tears. I love her wit and humor and strong personality. Whether you've read other books or not, you have to read this (although, really, they all deserve to be read!)

Powerful, relentless, merciless, Elijah has always won every battle he's ever taken on - until now. Ambushed by necromancers, he is left for dead only to be discovered by the woman who could very well deliver the final blow: Siena, the Lycanthrope Queen.

I have really enjoyed these books, as they are a different take on the whole demon, wereanimal, and vampire worlds. This book is sexy and has a strong story-line to go along with it. The main women in the books are strong characters in their own rights, but are made more complete by their bond with the male counter-parts.

Elijah doesn't know his life is incomplete, until he is mortally injured and he receives the assistance of Sienna, the werecougar queen. They initially resist the pairing, especially the female, but in the end the resistance is all for naught. Having had only a distaste for male warriors like her dad, Sienna is afraid to let go for fear of having devastating results occur for herself and her people. Elijah must prove himself to her, all while a crazy renegade demon tries to take out all the people he loves. Great story, with all the various stories going on tying up neatly at the end.

As a healer, he knows her body. But it's her heart he wants. For a thousand years, Gideon has healed his people. And as the oldest surviving male of his race, his wisdom has always been respected without question. But Gideon knows that even he is vulnerable to the powerful, primitive desires that befall his kind during Hallowed moons---and nine years ago that truth was hammered home when he found himself claiming Magdalena, the Demon King's sister, in a wild embrace.

This book made me wish that it was part of a series. I had a great time getting to know the characters. It has a unique twist on demons, making them into just another of the "nightwalkers", like vampires and werewolves. A human gets sucked into the mix and becomes part of a strange, pre-destined plan for the future of the race. With lots of spicy sex scenes (this book is not for your teen-age daughter), it keeps your interest throughout. It is, at heart, mainly a love story, but definitely weaves in the story of the future of the demon race into it, along with great ground-work for future stories with other characters. Not a deep story-line, but a really fun read.

Molly Harper has never disappointed me. This book loosely ties in with the Jane Jameson series, which I love. The humor doesn't disappoint and is always written with fantastic timing. The new main characters in this book are strong personalities that initially clash, with some humorous results. As the main female has a series of things go wrong and the poor vampire gets dragged along for the ride, they still have to find a way to make it to their destination, and get into all new adventures on their way! Fun and quick listen, that will keep you wanting more from the author and narrator!

I love this author, and this book does not deviate from her fabulous writing. With lots of humor in her writing, I laughed out loud many times. The story-line is great, in line with the series. As a relatively turned vampire, Jane is getting married to her sire. As with all her books, poor Jane finds herself in trouble of someone else's making, but she has to clean it up and still make it to her own wedding. Love the humor of Jane and the other characters as they deal with all the things that jump in the way! Enjoy!

Thriller scribe Sophie Katz is as hard-boiled as a woman who drinks Grande Caramel Brownie Frappuccionos can be. So Sophie knows it's not paranoia, or post-divorce, living-alone-again jitters, when she becomes convinced that a crazed reader is sneaking into her apartment to reenact scenes from her books. The police, however, can't tell a good plot from an unmarked grave.

I don't usually read this genre, preferring light fare that includes the supernatural like vampires and the like. This book was a surprising enjoyment, with lots of twists and turns, but not so many you get dizzy or can't keep track. Lots of humor intermixed and a fun chase of the bad-guy. All-in-all a quick and fun listen.
