A sleazy motel, burrowed on the edge of town, is haunted by rumors of dead hookers found between mattresses and peep holes drilled through walls. When Special Agent Daniels targets the motel during an investigation, the nefarious owner, Sanjay, must scramble to conceal evidence of his own dark deeds. Just when he believes things can't get any worse, motel guests begin to vanish without a trace.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Im not squeamish or puritanical but the author seems to revel in over the top gratuitous violence, sexual violence and a love for all things bodily fluid.

In fact the amount of bodily fluids expressed in full detail are of almost super human proportion. After hearing the phrase 'bloody neck flower' more then once to describe a headship I pretty much knew it was time to hang this up.

I'm a horror fan, but this is over the top compensation for lack of writing talent or the authors attempt to be shocking. There is on porn movie scene in particular that is brutal and goes into great detail for what means escapes me, frankly, Basically this book seems nothing more then the sum of it's seemingly endless masterbatory scenes leaving one feeling as if a shower or three are in order.

What aspect of Rose Caraway’s performance would you have changed?

The book she got stuck reading.

What character would you cut from Shady Palms?

The characters had promise, the author couldn't keep his need to attempt to shock in check.

In this tantalizing tale of Victorian ghost stories and family secrets, timid, solitary librarian Gerard Freeman lives for just two things: his elusive pen pal Alice and a story he found hidden in his mother's drawer years ago. Written by his great-grandmother Viola, it hints at his mother's role in a sinister crime. As he discovers more of Viola's chilling tales, he realizes that they might hold the key to finding Alice and unveiling his family's mystery - or will they bring about his untimely death, as they seem to foretell?

Would you consider the audio edition of The Ghost Writer to be better than the print version?

I rarely write reviews but wanted to weak up fr this beautifully written and actually suspenseful book regarding the ending. Anyone who simply pays attention, lets the book happen and doesn't have expectations of their own will understand the ending. Honesty, anyone who just pays attention will. I almost didn't buy this book because of the reviews and amI glad I chose to ignore them.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Ghost Writer?

    Inside the house.

Have you listened to any of Simon Vance’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes and he's wonderful as usual.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes!

There is an old, empty house in Devil's Cleave, a deep gorge that leads from the high moors down to the harbour village of Hollow Bay. The house is Crickley Hall and it's large and grim, somehow foreboding. It's rumoured to be haunted. It's thought to hold a secret. Despite some reservations, the Caleighs move in, searching for respite in this beautiful part of North Devon, seeking peace and perhaps to come to terms with what's happened to them as a family. But all is not well with the house....

    Karen says: "ZZZZZ......"
"Actually gave me chills, fantastic narrator."

What made the experience of listening to The Secret of Crickley Hall the most enjoyable?

One of the best narrators I've ever listened to, so much so I felt compelled to review the book. The story is engaging, sympathetic and intelligent and the characters very fleshed out. The ending was unexpected, it had everything I look for in a horror novel without the gratuitous violence that seems to pass for horror these days.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes!
