"spare yourself this torture"
a talented, good writer.
not from the genre, it only turned me off from john ringo for good.
it had good ideas
that this book has so many good reviews is the biggest mystery for me. ok, all the ideas in this book are good and sometimes even original, the narration is excellent. it could have been a perfectly nice sci-fi trip.. it could, if only ringo had a touch of talent for actually writing a GOOD book, a bit of know how about flow, composition or even prose? but no - its poor boring repetitive junk. he doesnt spare us from any irrelevant detail. i am so disappointed by how really bad writers have taken over the scifi genre. do yourself a favour and skip this one.. its unbearable
"very very lame.."
ok, lets not be unfair. maybe its good for somebody who has never read a self help book?but if you ever read anything else - anything no matter what in this genre - you'll find this one just a plain boring autobiographical story.
"entertainment pure"
excellent flow, never boring, perfectly written dialogs, not too predictable, really good humor
obviously the dog
my first scalzi novel, wont be the last one. excellent entertainment. i like easy listening audio books, this made my daily drive home instantaneous
"just perfect!"
i wish all audiobooks had only a bit of this one's brilliance. very good narrator, makes the story come alive..
"misses some.. 'je ne sais quoi'"
the story is not bad, really, but as with so many other audiobooks that could be entertaining the narrator is just not good enough. he is not terribly bad, but he makes me lose my attention all the time.
maybe i'm too picky but i wouldn't use my credit for this one.
there is better sci-fi out there..
"*disappointing*"
poor story,.. unnecessary dialogues and characters, i really don't get the good reviews? better get larry niven's 'mote in god's eye'.. save this one. waste of credit.
"terrible narration"
narration had so many fake accents, not convincing at all. to many pauses where non should have been.
story: predictable. boring. bland. unnecessary long.. mpff..
"loved it!"
ok, obviously this series is not a masterpiece of literature. but if thats not what you're looking for you will find a very addictive, exciting audiobook here.
especially if you're into the battlestar gallactica genre. the only thing i missed were more developed characters, but the story is so well told that at the end i didnt really mind that much.
i always listen to audiobooks when doing my cardio exercises. with this the lenght of my excercises have increased coz i couldnt stop listening...
"if you're 16.. ?"
nice idea for a scifi story. gets a bid stereotype and flat after the first few chapters. the end is very predictable.. narration was a bit 'childlike' all in all still ok.
"boring boring boring"
just couldn't make it more than 3 hours. such a boring story! even scott brick couldn't turn it alive.
