The gods forged the Twelve Swords of Power; now the gods have been destroyed by their own handiwork. The Swords are loose in the world, falling into the hands of human beings, changing human lives for good and ill. Young Kasimir was the custodian of Stonecutter, the sword which can hew mountains and split diamonds with equal ease - until he discovers Stonecutter has been stolen.

Edward says: "This is more along the lines of Sherlock Holmes.."

What did you like best about Stonecutter's Story? What did you like least?

I read the entire series as a teenager and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread, but since then I have read a few hundred other books, and this series no longer holds up.

Would you be willing to try another book from Fred Saberhagen? Why or why not?

Probably not, I may try some of his more recent works though.

Did Cynthia Barrett do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Decently well yes, not the best storyteller, but not terrible either.

Did Stonecutter's Story inspire you to do anything?

    Read something a little better.

Dashing young Edmond Dantès has everything: a fine reputation, an appointment as captain of a ship, and the heart of a beautiful woman. But his perfect life is shattered when three jealous friends conspire to destroy him. Falsely accused of a political crime, Dantès is locked away for life in the infamous Chateau d'If prison. But it is there that Dantès learns of a vast hidden treasure.

Would you try another book from Alexandre Dumas and/or John Lee?

I enjoy John Lee as a story teller, but Dumas's writing style is too long winded for my taste. Listen to an Abridged version of this, I gurantee it will be better. There is far too much detail, and it follows to many story arcs.

Has The Count of Monte Cristo turned you off from other books in this genre?

After listening to this, I deleted the 3 Muskateer audio books that were on my wish list, I no longer want to listen to Dumas.

What about John Lee’s performance did you like?

John Lee is a good story teller, but there are far better. Michael Kramer and Roy Dotrice are my two favorite male story tellers.

Was The Count of Monte Cristo worth the listening time?

The Count of Monte Cristo story was not worth the 47 hours dedicated to it. This is one of the few instances where I rather enjoyed the most recent movie more than the novel.
