Which is more dangerous, a gun or a swimming pool? What do schoolteachers and sumo wrestlers have in common? Why do drug dealers still live with their moms? How much do parents really matter? What kind of impact did Roe v. Wade have on violent crime?

What did you love best about Freakonomics?

it has interesting stories told from different points of view, not just the same old stuff with a little twist, but an actual new perspective.

In the early years of the 21st century, humans have advanced step by slow step into space. Constantly monitoring the heavens, they have discovered that certain asteroids have changed their orbits - and are on a collision course with Earth. Urgent action is required, but politics and a worldwide financial crash are getting in the way. To save humanity from disaster, two of Earth’s prominent families, a host of political movers and shakers, and dedicated pilots and space travelers of all stripes must band together.

What did you like best about this story?

I was interesting, made you want to know what was going to happen next. The story moves along fast that other books in the series but is not in a hurry to get to the end.

    Any additional comments?

this series was good and I enjoyed it, but it is not very fast paced and though there are many times that you don't want to stop, that are also many times where I found myself a little board and took long breaks (a day or so).

America faces a full-scale socioeconomic collapse in the near future. The stock market plummets, hyperinflation cripples commerce and the mounting crisis passes the tipping point. Practically overnight, the fragile chains of supply and high-technology infrastructure fall, and wholesale rioting and looting grip every major city.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would remove about half the references to god or prayer maybe more, there are so many its actually takes away from the story.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

his speech patterns are odd and made it hard to get into.

Was Patriots worth the listening time?

yes but I took much longer that it should have, between to the god this god that and the odd speech patterns of the narrator I found myself taking frequent pauses.

    Any additional comments?

I think an appropriately abridged version would be better, and I do not normally approve of editing out sections of books, but this one I think can be saved.

John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First, he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce - and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So, we fight, to defend Earth and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Let's go meet the new stellar neighbors, and kill them!

    Any additional comments?

Was well worth my time, good listen. Has a bit of a slow start, but the journey is fun and funny. If you are looking for some:
human vs alien - its got it
    humor - its got it
    sex - its got it
interstellar warfare - its got it
romance - it got a bit too, but not enough to screw up the story
other stuff worth checking out - yep its even got that to

only thing that bugged me was the 'he said' and 'she said' the narrator does a good enough job of changing up his voice that you don't need it most of the time, but that not a big deal.
