The story line was pretty good but it got lost in all the smut (porn). Really, there needs to be a Smut category for these stories. There might be 2 lines of romance in them but the rest is trash. The description of the book does not state that this is a trashy novel.
Unless Hollywood does some major rewriting it won't make it to the big screen. I've enjoyed maps as a casual observer: old ones, new ones, water, topographical... In fact, I at one time I considered getting into cartography as a profession. So I found the story interesting but not breath stopping.
It did upset me to think of the permanent, irreparable damage done to all the books and atlas' by map thieves. The courts and laws are not strong enough when someone has been convicted of these crimes.
I believe Mr. Runnette needs a visit to his dentist. There's some whistling there that is distracting from the narration.
Loved the characters & humor. Excellent narration by Tom Stechschulte. Will look for other books by this author - hopefully, there will be another in a series.
There's an old commercial that said, "It's not nice to fool mother nature". I want to modify it to say, "It's not nice to tick off the customers" and direct it to the author and publisher.
The ending is the pits. Totally unacceptable. And, because the publisher (probably) decided that the book should be ended that way, here's my response.
. . . . I will not buy any more books by this author or publisher. . . .
What a wild ride and a fantastic book for the eve of Veterans Day. With the story line, you keep saying this could happen -- now. And with the action, you run out of finger nails to chew.
It is also a prefect story to remind everyone just how much we owe to our veterans. Blessings and peace to each and every one who has SERVED. Thank you.
Excellent story, with wonderful characters and witty dialogue.
However, if I was the editor, I would cut back on all the references to music (a little bit is good but this is too much) and I would change the very end slightly.
See what you think. It is well worth the price of admission. I'm going to buy more.
What a delicious treat! A truly suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat, nail biter. And, it's not a revamp of a story that someone else told previously. Well worth the price. Definitely a 5-star winner. Congratulations to Ms. Unger and the narrators. This is my 2014 #1 Audible selection.
There is no better American writer alive today than James Lee Burke. And Will Patton's narration proves it.
Thought that the book needed to be edited tighter than it was edited. Kind of kept pounding the same nail over and over in several spots. Hit it once or maybe twice to really make a point but then you gotta just move on otherwise it starts to drag on too much.
Eisler is a pretty good narrator also. Not a top-notch professional but ever so much better than some authors that try to read their own work.
This probably would have been good porn, oops, I think it's called a "bodice ripper", but there was a fair detective story interrupting all of the hot-n-bothered writing.
Really, this book belongs in the "adults only" category with an XXX rating.
Yeah, you're right, I won't be reading any more of the trash written by Toby Neal. And shame on the publisher, Audible, and Amazon for not giving this book a proper description.
The author doesn't know if the main character is supposed to be a dumb twit that needs to be saved or is a smart competent woman that can save herself and others.
Example, at one point Ridley asks, "Is there something like a reverse phone directory?", then later in the book she uses her computer to go to her Lexis-Nexis account to skip trace someone. D'oh. If you've got the intelligence and acumen to have a L-N account you certainly are going to know that there is a reverse phone directory.
Seems like the author tries very hard to make a damsel-in-distress just so she can have a perfectly buff, gorgeous guy save her while she turns around and saves him. Hum. Why does that story line sound familiar?
