As Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes embark on their 11th adventure together, they find themselves immersed in the world of silent filmmaking. Here, the pirates are real—and unlike the shooting done with a camera, this sort can be deadly.

What was most disappointing about Laurie R. King’s story?

I kept waiting for Ms. King to give us a story...a plot line that was intriguing...but it never came.

    Any additional comments?

I'm a fan of Ms. King but I'm sorry, this book was a huge disappointment. It was, simply put, boring.

Best-selling author Martin Walker’s previous two novels starring Chief of Police Bruno Courrèges became hits with fans and critics around the globe. In this thrilling third mystery, Bruno has his hands full with trouble in the truffle trade in St. Denis’ marketplace. And when a friend is murdered, things really start heating up.

Kathi says: "Engaging action, great characters/sense of place!"

If you’ve listened to books by Martin Walker before, how does this one compare?

    My least favorite

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No

    Any additional comments?

The ending was like a soap opera and it felt as if the author rushed to finish/tie up all the loose ends...and the last few lines were really (I hate to say it) sappy.

  • A Lesson in Secrets: A Maisie Dobbs Novel

In the summer of 1932, Maisie Dobbs' career takes an exciting new turn when she accepts an undercover assignment directed by Scotland Yard's Special Branch and the Secret Service. Posing as a junior lecturer, she is sent to a private college in Cambridge to monitor any activities "not in the interests of His Majesty's government". She soon finds herself investigating a web of activities being conducted by the emerging Nazi Party.

Jeanette Finan says: "A worthy edition to the series"

Disagree with those who found this one "sub par". Maisie is moving forward and she is one of those who senses that a new darkness is creeping back into power in Europe--while her country's leaders take little heed. Enjoyed it very much.

Spencer Quinn’s quirky, best-selling tales from the four-legged perspective of K-9 school dropout Chet are unlike anything else in the mystery genre. In this third adventure, Chet once again teams with his two-legged detective partner Bernie Little to sniff out the clues in a perplexing case.

    Sally says: "Good listen. Again."

The animal cruelty plot line was not my favorite of the 3, but Chet steals my heart.
