Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

a great story and beautifully narrated. loved the two voices of jacob and all of the characters through the book. sometimes was hard to listen to the cruelty to rosie and imagining the awful lives of some of the animals especially the polar bear locked in a cage in the heat of a sweltering summer in america.

his most powerful and intricately-plotted novel yet. Thirteen year-old Johnny Merrimon had the perfect life: happy parents and a twin sister that meant the world to him. But Alyssa went missing a year ago, stolen off the side of a lonely street with only one witness to the crime. His family shattered, his sister presumed dead, Johnny risks everything to explore the dark side of his hometown in a last, desperate search.

    "Just a fantastic story!"
    Overall

i had recently read a brilliant John Hart book called Down River so when i got my audible credit, i thought i would try another. after reading some reviews which critized the accent i didnt think it would make much difference to me being from australia, so went ahead and downloaded it. thank heavens i did as it was a fantastic story. every time i thought i had it worked out i soon after was proved wrong. never would have guessed the ending. tragedy and hope and a little boy who would never give up.

Few can rival attorney Andy Carpenter's affection for golden retrievers, especially his own beloved Tara. After he astonishes a New Jersey courtroom by successfully appealing another golden's death sentence, Andy discovers that this gentle dog is a key witness to a murder that took place five years before. Andy pushes the boundaries of the law even further as he struggles to free an innocent man by convincing an incredulous jury to take canine testimony seriously. It will take all the tricks Andy's fertile mind can conceive to get to the bottom of a remarkable chain of impersonations and murder, and to save a dog's life - and his own - in the process.

One day a renowned author discovers that his wife, a war correspondent, has disappeared, leaving no trace. Though time brings more success and new love, he remains mystified -- and increasingly fascinated -- by her absence. Was she kidnapped, blackmailed, or simply bored with their marriage? The unrest she causes is as strong as the attraction she exerts.

    "BORING!!"
    Overall

No wonder she disappeared...she wanted to get away from her boring husband! This book is about total self analysis to the point of making you want to scream out loud if they go on for one minute longer. They talk about love or the lack of it constantly and obsess about everything in their lives. Self absorption at its worst!

One of America’s most popular authors, Jodi Picoult has earned a reputation for crafting riveting, topical fiction. In House Rules she examines how being different can have dire consequences. Teenager Jacob Hunt has Asperger’s syndrome. A forensic science wizard, he follows his scanner to show up at crime scenes and give law enforcement officials his advice.

Charlotte says: "Great book until the ending"
    "Typical Jodi Picoult"
    Overall

Jodi Picoult does it again by taking us into a world most of us arent aware of. The dedication and unending love and patience of a parent of a special needs kid and the lack of understanding of "normal" people to the problems of anyone a bit different. Jacob sometimes makes you laugh outloud at the literal meanings he gives to things and his mum emma and brother theo show how much having a child or sibling who needs special consideration can cause such angst. Well done Jodi!
