This book and it's reading were simply awful. It is the worst book that I've purchased in the last 12 months.
Although the material is a bit dated, it describes the Chinese economy and it's impact on the entire world. When the government forces even the biggest corporations to give up trade secrets, as it does to every company wanting to do business in China, it gives itself the power to produce those products on an unimaginable scale that even the originating company cannot compete with. Add to that the meaninglessness of copyright laws, and a population that is mobilized for production, it's inevitable that China will be the next #1 superpower in the world.
This story is nothing short of amazing. This book took me into the hardships and everyday life of freeborn man who was kidnapped in the the horrible world of slavery. The book was not written with hate. It was written as an account of an individuals personal experience.
I highly recommend this book.
While I was pleased, I felt the story lacked substance. I had watched the movie based on this book many times over the years. The book did not meet my expectations. The movie was a much better story. Usually, this is not the case.
The story while enjoyable it is not a complete book. I'm disappointed. It seems as if the author took a complete book, ripped in half, and published the first half. It would have been better had the story been published with a beginning, a middle, and an end with a prelude to the next novel. But, this book is simply cut short.
This book nothing more than a religious diatribe. Take out the religious ramblings about the authors personal beliefs, and there isn't much left.
I purchased this book in the hopes of learning something about "Surviving Off Grid". I wasn't expecting an instruction manual on religion. Had I wanted an instruction manual on religion, I would have purchased one.
I feel like the author misrepresented his book and took my money based on false pretenses. This is not honest. I actually expected that the book would have something to due with the title and the description, but it does not. It's a rambling religious diatribe couched in the guise of a guide to learning about off grid survival.
This book is an incomplete story. The first half of the book is pointless political ramblings that go nowhere. The second half of the book is a childish rendition of a space battle. The book seems to have no beginning and no conclusions. It's hard to even like the characters because they are shallow and vague.
I listened to the entire book and was very disappointed.
For me the story was bad. The plot was bad. I listen to the entire book, but this was one that I wanted to quit in the middle.
This was a very sad story of man's cruelty to man, and the hope that abides in the human psyche for things better. It is also the story of a family and the love that holds them together through terrible times. It's also the story of an abused boy who becomes the worst of men who heinously uses and abuses others. Mostly it's a story of great grief and the human spirit's rebellion against evil, while keeping that which is most precious: A family's love.
I enjoyed this book. It just goes to show that by changing how necessities are viewed can change your life. It also underscores a the point that if your home is paid-off, you really don't need that much money.
With no rent and no mortgage it is possible to have a lot of free time to do and learn the things that interest you. One question, that came to me was: Why am I working so hard? For money? And, would it be better to have less money and more free time?
I do wonder if possum living is possible today. In southern California where I life, I'm not sure. In other areas of the USA, I think it might be possible.
When reading a book, I try to take the good and apply what I can to my own life. I remember being on a farm as a child, and the book brought back some of those memories.
