How did the narrator detract from the book?

If you like pauses between each sentence, get this book. Aack! Drove me crazy.

Stephen King's first full-length solo novel since Dreamcatcher, the long-awaited From a Buick 8 is "nearly flawless and one terrific entertainment," says Publishers Weekly. A strange car acts as a conduit between our world and some other...and the boogeyman of this creepy story is our collective fascination with deadly things.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrators often try to put too much emphasis on phrases and then add pauses, again, for emphasis. It sometimes drags because they perform so slowly. I bumped up the app on my Android to read 25% faster (a so nice option) and it was much better.

In the 1950s poet Christopher Chubb composes a body of sexually charged poems. Chubb then dupes a trendy literary magazine into believing the poems were composed by the late Bob McCorkle, an undiscovered genius. But the trick backfires, and soon Chubb finds himself tormented by the very monster he creates. Decades later, a literary editor named Sarah Wode-Douglass begins peeling back the layers of the Chubb mystery in, of all places, Malaysia, where the reclusive poet remains in hiding.

When you pay the $15/mo membership, you feel like you must listen to everything you buy. I really wish that I had that 10 hours and month's credit back.

Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be. Vic doesn't tell anyone about her unusual ability, because she knows no one will believe her. She has trouble understanding it herself.

What made the experience of listening to NOS4A2 the most enjoyable?

Kate Mulgrew did such a perfect job animating the characters in this very rich book, I have not experienced another audio book so fully.

What other book might you compare NOS4A2 to and why?

I did not know who Mr. Hill's father was when I listened to N0S4A2. Dozens of times before, when I listen to or read something by Mr. Hill's father, I always would say, about 30 "pages" into it -- "Ha ha. He's got me again." Well -- In N0S4A2, Joe Hill had me as entranced as any of his father's works. Bravo.

Have you listened to any of Kate Mulgrew’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Right after this, I listened to another of Kate Mulgrew's readings, The Son. The Son was a good book, and all of the presenters did a great job, but this was not as rich an audio palette as what Joe Hill has offered up. I will intentionally do another audible book if it comes in front of me and it has Ms. Mulgrew's touch on it.

    Any additional comments?

I don't believe that I've ever reviewed another audio book, but, 6 months after I listened to this one, I still think of it regularly. I wanted to post out here in support of one of the best media experiences I've had. Curtain call!!
