Before Liz Lemon, before "Weekend Update," before "Sarah Palin," Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told....

    Overall

I find Tina Fey hilarious and enjoy her writing very much. I'd read excerpts from this book and couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Although the content of the book lived up to my expectations, and I normally enjoy her voice and acting, I found the reading pace of this audio book too fast. I barely had time to digest each funny line before she was on to the next one, and that sort of ruined it for me. I wish I'd read the pdf along with her, to catch the nuances. Maybe I'll re-read it and try it that way!

John William Barry has inherited the pedigree - and wealth - of two of Seattle's elite families; Neil Countryman is blue-collar Irish. Nevertheless, when the two boys meet in 1972 at age 16, they're brought together by what they have in common: a fierce intensity and a love of the outdoors that takes them together into Washington's remote backcountry.

What disappointed you about The Other?

I kept waiting for the story to take off, but every time something would start to happen, the narrative took a byroad to detailed, lengthy, uber cerebral description of people, places, and things. In the end, I was just bored.

How could the performance have been better?

The reader had such a dull, plodding, and unsympathetic tone that I began to actively loathe everyone in the book.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Other?

I tried twice to read this book, with almost 4 years between attempts. I never made it past the first few hours either time. I've read several hundred audio books in the past 20 years, and have only set aside possibly 10 without finishing them.
