I have never read a Koontz book until this one caught my eye. He has certainly done his homework into the world of dog rescue which he intertwined into the heart pounding story in this book. I found myself tearing up on more than one occasion as he described in detail the life of a dog rescuer and the happiness and sorrows that come with that life.
Even if you've never rescued an animal you will enjoy this book. It's touching and exciting and holds your interest right up to the last sentence
There wasn't much I enjoyed about this book. In fact I had to listen to it in double speed just to get through the agonizing narration. I can't quite grasp what everyone is raving about. The characters are unlikeable. Aside from Christians wealth and good looks he would represent a nightmare to be in a relationship with. Overbearing, jealous etc etc. and Anastasia is pathetic. Come on with the dialog. How many Holy craps, holy shits, and holy f**ks, can one insert. Not to mention this girl who speaks like she's fresh out of junior high, goes from an entry level position, is so irresistable that a man would throw his entire career away just to sleep with her, then she is the most qualified person to take over running the company? Paleeeeze. Throw in the crazy ex-lover stalking them, just bad. The Ohhhh Anna's during their sexcapades (which actually started to become boring) made my skin crawl. The narrators interpretation of Christian was aweful, she should only do young female voices, ever. Read it if you must but don't bother listening
She was too slow, boring. The only thing she captured well was Anastasia's child like qualities
The book was so bad I couldn't even finish it even listening at double speed. I can deal with a bad narrator if the story is good but I found nothing redeeming about this second edition.
I almost didn't choose this book based on the horrible reviews it received. Sure it was wrong to entice people using Alex Cross as the draw but I found the book entertaining and not overly violent. Having read other books with real accounts of how black citizens were treated back then in the south I was not at all surprised by the graphic nature of the text. Patterson is often quite graphic when describing his crime scenes. This was no different. All in all it held my interest and was fast paced. If you are not looking to be blown away but enetertained give it a try
I am a huge fan of James Patterson and all of his Alex Cross novels. His latest characters introduced in First to Die are a fun and different mix. This book definitely held my interest but the narrator was terrible. She over emphasized words and phrases to the point were she made some of the characters unlikable. If you can get past that it is worth reading and I can't wait to hear the third installment. At least the Lindsey Boxer stories can hold me over until the next Alex Cross comes out!
This is the first Sue Miller book I have listened too and I plan on listening to her others. "Lost in the Forest" was easy to listen too and really drew you into the lives of the characters. It was hard not to feel the pain of the loss of the childrens father/step-father and become involved in their worlds. I found myself hating Duncan for his role in Daisy's life and sincerely hoping for a reconciliation between Eva & Mark. I definitely recommend taking the time to listen to this book. It moves along quickly but not too quickly that you loose your way in the story. Millers writing style isn't overly wordy or descriptive so you don't get bored but you can visualize the tale she is telling.
I love James Patterson's writing, especially the Alex Cross novels, however this book couldn't hold my interest at all. Like one reviewer said I kept waiting for it to be over but I listened to it because I paid for it. I hoped it would get better but it never did. I suppose if I had any interest at all in the stock market world I may have enjoyed it more. It was however, read beautifully so if you are a stock market enthusiast then try it out!
