For 200 years, a noble Venetian family has suffered from an inherited disease that strikes their members in middle age, stealing their sleep, eating holes in their brains, and ending their lives in a matter of months. In Papua New Guinea, a primitive tribe is nearly obliterated by a sickness whose chief symptom is uncontrollable laughter. Across Europe, millions of sheep rub their fleeces raw before collapsing. What these strange conditions share is their cause: prions.

David says: "A great scientific mystery"
    "Title misleading"
    Overall

The title is a bit misleading. The book is informative, but more about Mad Cow Disease then the actual condition and lives of the family that is afflicted with this disease.

Tender Branson, the last surviving member of the so-called Creedish Death Cult, is dictating his life story into the flight recorder of Flight 2039, cruising on autopilot at 39,000 feet somewhere over the Pacific Ocean. He is all alone in the airplane, which will crash shortly into the vast Australian outback. But before it does, he will unfold the tale of his journey from an obedient Creedish child and humble domestic servant to an ultra-buffed, steroid-and-collagen-packed media messiah.

    What disappointed you about Survivor?

The story wa boring. Narrator was monotone.

What could Chuck Palahniuk have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Build a character instead of a robot.

What didn’t you like about Paul Garcia’s performance?

His voice was robotic and monotone.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappointing waste of money.

What would have made Green Calder Grass better?

First suggestion, is if the setting is Montana, USA; YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE A BRITISH NARRATOR!

Would you be willing to try another book from Janet Dailey? Why or why not?

    Possibly with a better Narrator.

Would you be willing to try another one of Mil Nicholson’s performances?

    No.

What character would you cut from Green Calder Grass?

    Tara

What would have made Phantoms better?

Dean Koontz needs to start asking himself this one question when he is writing... Would people really react in this way? I love science fiction. The author though has to make every scenario and every person believable.

What could Dean Koontz have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

He needs to look back at his old formulary.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

No narrator could have made this book good. I'm sorry that he had to suffer through this entire story.

What character would you cut from Phantoms?

Every character except the physicians little sister.

In this Hugo-nominated novel, an alien walks into a museum and asks if he can see a paleontologist. But the arachnid ET hasn't come aboard a rowboat with the Pope and Stephen Hawking (although His Holiness does request an audience later). Landing at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, the spacefarer, Hollus, asks to compare notes on mass extinctions with resident dino-scientist Thomas Jericho.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

    No. Found the story boring

What could Robert J. Sawyer have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I had a hard time with imagining a big insect alien story line.

What does Jonathan Davis and Robert J. Sawyer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrators voices were pleasant to listen to.

Did Calculating God inspire you to do anything?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

I couldn't get through the first hour of this book. It didn't grab me.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

    Take the religious references out.

Has Full Disclosure turned you off from other books in this genre?

I obviously didn't know this was a religious fiction book.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

    It was alright. Not horrible.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointed. I was looking for a mystery, not a love story of a beautiful 40 year old virgin police detective.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

    A pre-teen

What could Lisa Gardner have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Her other books are so great. This was like a teen age harlequin story. Not like her other stuff at all.

What didn’t you like about Kate Rudd’s performance?

I loathed the pouty spoiled girl voice.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Maggie's Man?

Honestly, from the get go every scene I could handle listening to seemed amateurish..I have a hard time believing this is the same writer who wrote WHO DO YOU LOVE. If this had been the first of her books I'd purchased, I never would have given any of her other really good books a chance.

    Any additional comments?

She should remove this book from stores- both online and walk in stores.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

For an abridged book, you would think they would cut out parts of the book in areas where you wouldn't notice, but they cut out parts of sentences and jumped forward to a whole dieffent part of another chapter. Great readers, but they way the editors hacked it up was awful.

Would you ever listen to anything by Max Brooks again?

    Not an abridged book.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    The narrators were great

I read other people's reviews on this book, and to the person who said that the protagonist was unlikeable and never apologized for what he did... Well, that reader obviously didn't finish the book. Nelson Demille has a way of writing that absolutely hooks me into the mind of his characters. This one did not disappoint at all. I didn't want this book to end. To the critic of Scott Brick's narration. He did so well in this book that I forgot I was being read to. This is truely a five star book!

The freezing Antarctic winter shuts supply lines down completely; conditions are too treacherous for planes and boats and the only connection with the rest of the world is satellite hook-up. During the winter of 1999, Dr. Nielsen, the only physician on a staff of 41 people, discovered a lump in her breast. She was forced to perform a biopsy and in June began to treat herself with chemotherapy, in order to insure that she could survive until her rescue in October.
