At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

What made the experience of listening to The Hiding Place the most enjoyable?

I liked the accents, and they were not difficult to understand. Helped me feel like I was there.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cory, of course! She's was just an amazing person. So much courage!

Have you listened to any of Wanda McCaddon’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes.

    Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this very much. I'd heard many times that this was a good book, but never had time to read it. I'm thankful for Audible that I finally was able to have it read to me! I found it very educational too. The graphic descriptions made me feel like I was there witnessing everything Cory was seeing.

Jennifer Thompson was raped at knifepoint by a man who broke into her apartment while she slept. She was able to escape and eventually identified Ronald Cotton as her attacker. Ronald insisted that she was mistaken - but Jennifer's positive identification was the compelling evidence that put him behind bars. After 11 years, Ronald was allowed to take a DNA test that proved his innocence. He was released after serving more than a decade in prison for a crime he never committed.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. I enjoy non-fiction. This story reminds us of how everyone makes mistakes--even our justice system. This is a great message of forgiveness and healing.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The speech Jennifer gave at the rally at the end of the book.
