I thought Jenna Lamia did a great job with the voices and dramatization. I also thought the story was very touching. The characters grew and changed during the story, but were dear throughout! Well -- except for T-Ray!
August. She is so wise and down-to-earth. Maybe she would rub off on me!
I love this book, the story, the characters, and the many words of wisdom woven in. Lovely! I also learned a lot about bee-keeping!
I might recommend this series to a friend, but I would warn them that so far this book is the weekest link in the chain. I look forward to the next book in the hopes that Archer will tie things up a little better.
I like Harry Clifton. He is the most real of the characters to me. I like it that he is a book writer, too!
No Pain, No Gain Part 1
One of the things I love about Archer is how he cleverly brings things around in the end. His book are usually nicely wrapped packages, full of suspense. During this book I kept wondering, "Where's the big story?"
I still love how Archer writes and I will still read the next installment, but I have to admit I was somewhat disappointed this time around.
Listening to the book was no problem -- I enjoyed the narrator. If I had been reading the book I would have had more trouble with the lack of intrigue.
I enjoy this series very much. The characters are well-developed and very real and I like them all. The audible version was read by two different women which added to the variety and listening enjoyment. As an added bonus I am now learning to quilt! It's something I can do while listening to books!
Expression, clear definition of who is currently narrating
I always enjoy books by James Patterson. Some of his books contain more profane language and this is one that does. It bothers me a little more when I am listening to a book like that that when I am reading the book. I understand that this is no big deal to some people -- I just don't want to pop out with any zinging language in my day to day dealings with children, so I try to watch what I listen to. Along Came a Spider is, of course, a GREAT read otherwise!
Yes. It's a very entertaining read.
I like Robie. I'm not sure he's a very realistic character, but if I want realistic, I'll go to Walmart. Robie is very respectable, kind, and his character develops during the book. I think that is essential in a good read.
They add the masculine and feminine sides and make the flow of conversation easier to discern. There were a few times that having the same female read all of the remale characters was a bit confusing, but I think it added more than it detracted.
I think I did tear up at the end. The little girl has such a sad life and has to face so much. The end is touching.
I do not think the sound-effects and music add to the book. I think it is distracting. I know it's a performance, but it's a book -- not a movie.
I love the characters! They are colorful, funny, and real. The readers who created this perfomance did a superb job of enhancing those characters in their interpretations.
Abilene, I think, though I thought they were all excellent.
How about "My Help". Growing up in the south I heard many times "My help will be here on Tuesday, so the house'll be clean for bridge club." I wouldn't really change the name though. "The Help" is perfect.
Wonderful book. Fabulous performance!
I have not read the print version, but, as a non-baseball-addict, I would not have enjoyed wading through all of the baseball facts had I tried to read it. I would have done it, but would not have been able to deal with it as gracefully as Erik Singer, the reader, did!
I liked the main character most. In general I like Grisham's main characters. Grisham makes them likeable and realistic.
I have listened to Erik Singer many times and he does a superb job. He uses color and inflection for the different characters without over-doing the dramatization. His performance enhances the the book.
I listened to it in about 2 days so I didn't miss by much! I was definitely hooked once I got started!
