Full of unforgettable figures and an unrelenting spirit of adventure, Strange Stones is a far-ranging, thought-provoking collection of Peter Hessler’s best reportage - a dazzling display of the powerful storytelling, shrewd cultural insight, and warm sense of humor that are the trademarks of his work. Over the last decade, as a staff writer for The New Yorker and the author of three books, Peter Hessler has lived in Asia and the United States, writing as both native and knowledgeable outsider in these two very different regions.

These stories were very entertaining although a little eclectic. They gave some interesting insights into the Chinese culture. The narrator was very irritating, almost enough to make us stop listening. After persevering we got used to the narrator I would not get another book read by him.

I love this series and these characters but this novel was not very satisfying. It might be because it's abridged, but the story seemed to jump occasionally and I felt as if some bridges were missing. Barbara Rosenblat was fabulous as always.

Brilliant 21st-century tycoon Justin Cord was brought from cryogenic storage into a 24th-century society where people own stock in one another, safeguarding each other's welfare only out of economic self-interest. This is anathema to the defiantly individualistic Cord, who leads the outer edges of the solar system to form a new government and revolt against the core world of Earth and Mars.

Since the previous books in this series are not available on Audible (or at least not available to Australian members) I started with this book. It is all politics and characters that are not introduced because you are supposed to know their history from the prior books. As a stand alone it is awful.

Leo Graf was just your average highly efficient engineer: mind your own business, fix what's wrong, and move on to the next job. But all that changed on his assignment to the Cay Habitat, where a group of humanoids had been secretly, commercially bioengineered for working in free fall. Could he just stand there and allow the exploitation of hundreds of helpless children merely to enhance the bottom line of a heartless mega-corporation?

I>Shards of Honor is the novel in which Lois McMaster Bujold introduced the science-fiction world to Barrayar and Aral Vorkosigan, Beta Colony and Cordelia Naismith. From this beginning the author has created a multigenerational saga spanning time as well as space. Bujold is generally recognized as the current exemplar of the character-based science-fiction adventure story.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I am an avid knitter so was very excited to find a mystery novel with knitting woven in (excuse the mixed metaphor). However, I found the story so drawn out and boring that I can't make myself listen to the end. I can't even be bothered to skip to the last chapter to find out 'who done it'. Perhaps if you are a fan of the series and have an existing relationship with the characters you would enjoy this, but I didn't like it at all.
