Four days before Christmas in 1943, a badly damaged American bomber struggled to fly over wartime Germany. At its controls was a 21-year-old pilot. Half his crew lay wounded or dead. It was their first mission. Suddenly a sleek, dark shape pulled up on the bomber’s tail - a German Messerschmitt fighter. Worse, the German pilot was an ace, a man able to destroy the American bomber with the squeeze of a trigger.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely, I have recommended this audio book to all my friends that love this genre. I felt such a connection to Franz and Charlie. A connection I haven't experienced since Unbroken. Of all the audiobooks in my Library, which is well into the hundreds, a good 95% are WWII novels. This falls into a tie with Unbroken as one of my 2 all time favorite WWII novels!...Do not miss this one!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Franz, he gave me such great insight into the Luftwaffe, appreciation for the honor they flew with, and as well, the horrible conditions they endured for a war they had no wish to be in.

Which character – as performed by Robertson Dean – was your favorite?

    Franz, The best!

    Any additional comments?

I would look for any book read by Robertson Dean, he was fantastic.
