When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it at first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is a great character book, that allows you to hear the story from all perspectives. The story moves along at a good pace, so that you never get bored. I would recommend this book to any listener, whether or not you like the Harry Potter series, as this book goes in a totally different direction than Rowling's other works.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

    Story

This is a romance story that turns very weird at the end when one of the main characters gets sexually tortured. This put a very weird ending on the book, that just didn't fit with the rest of the story. The book is also unnecessarily long, due to not much happening in the story.

What did you love best about The Host?

This story has a unique plot on what an alien takeover could look like. Although it was a little bit too long, the book is a great listen, and if she comes out with a sequel I would definitely listen to it.

Hig survived the flu that killed everyone he knows. His wife is gone, his friends are dead, he lives in the hangar of a small abandoned airport with his dog, his only neighbor a gun-toting misanthrope. In his 1956 Cessna, Hig flies the perimeter of the airfield or sneaks off to the mountains to fish and to pretend that things are the way they used to be. But when a random transmission somehow beams through his radio, the voice ignites a hope deep inside him that a better life exists beyond the airport.

Where does The Dog Stars rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

A great end of the world story. The story is well written and gives the reader great imagery of the end of the world. The story moves along at a good pace, so the listener never gets bored. Looking forward to more great books from this author.

  • Ender's Game: Special 20th Anniversary Edition

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Enter Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, the result of decades of genetic experimentation.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I thought the book dragged in several places, especially the fight scenes which are a majority of the book.
