"I enjoyed this book a great deal"
Very compelling history. I had no idea how close Paris had come to destruction, saved by a German general disobeying direct orders from Hitler, and diverting allied troops intent on bypassing Paris on their way to Berlin.
"What a disappointment"
Book one of this series was a bit slow for me, but after that the series really took off and I burned all my credits. Butcher really hit his stride and Marsters seemed to channel Dresden perfectly. Now I've been waiting with much anticipation for this next installment and, disaster. Marsters "not available." OK, steady, plenty of good readers.
No. Hopes dashed. Butcher is a cocky, smart-alleck. This reads like he's a fence post.
Guess I'll buy this one on Kindle and imagine Marster's narration. I'll spend my Audible credits on the Game of Thrones series. Tyrion Lannister comes to life over there, at least.
This is probably the most negative review I've ever left on Audible, and I'm sorry to have to do it. I mean no disrespect to Butcher who seems like a great guy, and I hear Glover is good in other contexts.
(PS, is it too late to grab Marsters from whatever comicon or nerdfest he's at and have him sit in front of a microphone for a few days?)
"Great book, terrible narration"
This production of Richard Evans great book is seriously hobbled by poor narration. Odd pauses and hesitations totally pull you out of the narrative. The text itself is excellent. If you are interested in this topic, Defying Hitler is a great memoir with a wonderful narrator.
"Excellent"
This is one of the best audiobooks I've purchased. An excellent view of how Hitler's Germany came to be from the perspective of an ordinary, that is to say incredibly talented and perceptive but not highly placed, German. Highly recommended.
