"Engaging story told in a rather shrill manner"
The story is easy to follow, but engaging. It is a simple story, at a child's level, but I listened while driving on an 1100 mile trip. It made the trip pass more smoothly.
Only if I must.
"Raising Dragons from a kid's point of view"
The story was written from the point of view of a pre-teen girl; it could have been a horse farm in today's world. She grows to understand her father better, while she endures humility when a girl rival appears to triumph over her.
This is a well written book that will keep you engaged as you learn about the girl, her father and the orphaned dragon she's grown to love.
"A Good Story, but Hard on the Ears"
As other reviewers found, I thought the narrator was an unpleasant listen. However, I've wanted to 'read' the Pendragon books. I'm glad I did, because the story is good! The characters are well developed, and realistic. It always takes me a while to properly place the characters in their settings when two branches of the story are developed in parallel (a common way of writing novels), but it worked well in this story.
In short, I recommend this story. Once you get past the relatively flat narration, the characters take over, and talk to you directly.
"A wonderfl mystery, with a touch of romance"
The flow of the story is just right in this mystery. Action unfolds from a first-person perspective from different characters at different times, but they complement each other, and create an energetic tale!
